So just 2 days after the Bushies issues its first terrorist threat in a long time, a Bin Laden tape turns up.

Your friend may be right. I don't believe that such a coincidental Bin Laden message was really from him. I think the Bushies are behind it. I rather think Bin Laden may be dead.

I think if OBL was a fictional character, too many people would have to know about it.

I think he's dead too. He's alive only through the mix of real (and doctored) tapes the CIA collected after they killed him. Of course he's alive to "cry wolf" from time to time when the President's numbers are down.
