Wouldn't it be easy enough to hire someone at random to "stay" for the night, unload some coke in the house, tip off the police and have everybody in there arrested for dealing drugs?

Ohh yeah, I remember that. It wasn't quite the same thing as happening here. It was some guy going around, posing as a landlord for a bunch of places and renting them out to people he never had the right to. So both sets of people, the owners and the "squatters", were victims there. We had a thread on it, but I don't seem to be able to dig it up.

edit: here it is. The couple never got the chance to close on the home either.

If I was in the situation and had the money (and the police wouldn't do anything about it, as they seem disinclined to do, and I couldn't just shoot them) I would just demolish the house. If the unlawful "residents" didn't vacate in time, too bad for them.

So you would demolish your recently renovated, multi-million dollar mansion just to kill/injure some people? You know the insurance isn't going to cover that :)

Can the rightful owner just go in there and kick everyone's ass and throw them out? If that was the case I'd call in some mercs to clean house and send the invaders the bill.

Look at England's history they came to the US thinking they can squat in the US and every other place they been to. They still think that they can quat as show here but we all know when they tried that in the USA that got their ass kicked and from then on they found out the hard way that maybe they can only squat in their own country stupid fools.

you have a rather creative grasp of history.

:hmm:

Poor use of the money. Hire about 50 retired Royal Marines, have them pose as low-life scumbags attempting to join the squat. Mercenaries get in, break lots of bones, throw the squatters out the window.

What's the difference between:

"it's absolutely true because I read it in the Daily Mail"

and

"it's absolutely false because I read it in the Daily Mail"

?

(i'm such a chump. I can't help but fall for neckbeard's trolling)

Wow you didn't get the sarcasm in the song...!

In any event if this is on the BBC then fair enough, fuck the daily fail though, it is bullshit.

It's one thing if the person is rich, like Guy Ritchie, but I remember a story where this happened to some random dude. It makes me sick that a government would allow people to steal somebody's home. Not only is it a core necessity of life, but the poor guy probably worked his ass off to buy it. In the mean time, these hooligans get cut a free cheque by the government for sitting with their thumbs up their backsides. Money the government forcibly took from the working class.

It's hardly an epidemic but it shows lack of competence from the police and the local government. There probably is a law against this, (trespassing) but the powers-that-be don't want to rock the boat and incite a riot.

Agreed. The estimated 15,000 squatters in the UK are retarded, that being said I do support it if it's in an abandoned office building, because there are so many derelict office buildings that have been that way for 10/20 years... They should be opened to the homeless..

They would touch my door handle and be shot. My city would likely give me a medal for stopping a home invasion.
