The National Republican Congressional Committee is also taking the race very seriously – so seriously, in fact, that the NRCC has come up with an unusual fundraising gambit.

Folks can go to a website that looks legitimate – contribute.sinkforcongress2014.com – and find a nice photo of the Democratic candidate alongside a graphic that reads, “Alex Sink - Congress.” If you’re not reading carefully, you might assume this is a page for Sink supporters to make a campaign contribution to their preferred candidate. But it’s not – this is a page set up by Republicans. The Tampa Bay Times reported yesterday:

The problem is such a look-alike site, with a banner blaring “Domenic Recchia for Congress,” may violate Federal Election Commission regulations for confusing the public, election lawyers say.
There’s no firm count yet on the exact number of districts in which the NRCC is trying this stunt, though Rebecca Leber found six similar instances, all following the same model.

For their part, officials at the Republicans’ campaign committee insist the trick is technically legal and the NRCC is willing to return contributions to those who believe they were deceived.

It's funny to how desperate the GOP is becoming. This article about the same issue says:

The NRCC defended the sites to NBC News, and said Democrats were upset because their candidates are struggling.

But the data tells a different story. Democrats are actually raising significantly more money than Republicans.
A Wall Street Journal of the latest campaign filings finds that the top Democratic candidates in the 52 most competitive House races reported raising $42.3 million last year, easily beating the $34.8 million for the top Republican candidates in those races.

Also interesting to see this left-leaning liberal main-stream media outlet characterizing this behavior not as offensive, but as "outfoxing" Democrats; like it isn't blatant scamming, just shrewd politics.

It reminds me of the more restrictive election laws that have been passed by Republican state houses. If you can't win on your positions, try to decrease the opposition's ranks or try to trick 'em into supporting your guy.

How can any of this do anything but hurt them? Do they think people ignore this stuff?
