More reckless "journalism" from PC World

They advocate disabling SSID broadcast, as a means to stop neighbors from using your wireless.

Stupid, and downright dangerous advice.

Best way to protect your WiFi is to use WPA-AES or WPA2-PSK, with a strong password. Nothing else is even remotely safe.

Absolutely reckless, completely false, every paragraph is full of misinformation or downright lies. Disabling SSID broadcast can actually CAUSE problems for you. I looked for an E-mail address to set him straight but couldn't find one.

I use WPA2, but I'd also turn off my SSID if I could. The problem though is that there are rare incompatibilities on my system when the SSID is turned off, and it's a hassle when people visit because you have to manually type in the SSID.

That's precisely why it's bad advice to do that, more problems will come up then you solved(none).

Some users rely on their router's WPA encryption capabilities, while others employ MAC address filtering. Some do both. I'm not wild about either approach, as they involve a lot of hoop-jumping when I need to add new PCs and devices to the network.

Jumping hoops like setting up a passphrase once on the client? OH NO TEH HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fucking dumbass lol
