My rig is getting old now, about 14 months old actually. I only have 128 megs of generic pc100 ram, so I'm thinking maybe I should get some more or something, eh? I just wanted to know how much would I notice a difference and will it be cheaper if I wait a bit......

here's what I'm running:

Win 98
Athlon 600
GeForce 256 DDR
ASUS K7V
wd 18 gig hd 7200 rpm
128 megs generic pc100 ram

anything else.....?

As I understand it. The overstock of PC-100/133 SDRAM is close to out. Which will create more demand. This in turn will drive prices up. In fact last week a few news sources were citing an ever so slight increase already. We've enjoyed ridiculously low prices now for months. So....my point is I would buy more RAM now anyway if you have the means. Furthermore If your Win98 install is 14 months old with no refresh, you may want to consider a reinstall. The combination of the two should certainly liven up your system.

Not sure where you got $94, but Crucial.com has 128 MB DIMM's for $51.29 for cas3 and $54.89 for cas2. Pretty good stuff. Another option would be Mushkin.com which offers their basic PC 133 128 MB DIMM for $39 with free shipping!! It is good quality stuff and will run with your PC-100 no problem. Edit, my bad, see you were talking about 256 MB. Still think you should consider the 128 MB DIMM as 256 is just about the sweet spot for Win98. I have 384 mb and really don't notice any difference from 256. There did seem to be a slight gain going from 128 to 256 though.
