You can work at a fulltime job living modestly, get sick one week, and suddenly the bills mount and before you know it you are out of a job on the streets with medical bills you can never hope to pay. Healthcare is the leading cause of bankruptcy in this nation, so much so that the entire system needs an overhaul. Healthcare reform isn't just throwing money at the problem. It is overhauling the entire system to remove the gross ineficiencies, redundancies, etc. that plague the system. There are many, many ways this can be done, and we already have plenty examples of what works and doesn't.

Guns and butter. You can't eat bullets.... If you think so, go ahead and try....

Funny. The bolded is exactly what's happening; tossing tens of billions of dollars at people who won't produce a thing for our economy in their lifetimes.

The only inefficiency is government health care costs which are spiraling the deficit. It's already failed in Massachusetts.

You obviously don't have any experience working in the healthcare industry. Billing/Insurance is a HUGE scam the way they operate. As far as the bolded statement goes, you do have to throw some money at it just to keep the status quo. The real reform (hopefully) will be issue #1 very soon. If only the private medical industry had the same amount of beurocratic inefficiency that, say, SS or many other gvt programs do. That isn't to say that gvt can't be horribly inefficient, but moreso to say how bad the medical insurance industry has made things.

"tossing tens of billions of dollars who won't produce a thing for our economy in their lifetimes" is so horribly inaccurate, irrelevant, and just plain WRONG that I don' t even know where to begin. That is trolling if I ever saw it. You don't honestly believe that, do you? If so, what would you propose we do? These "liabilities" as you seem to think them still benefit from many of our public goods/services. Maybe we should make it so that society is only comprised of "productive" members of the economy.
