yea... people aren't understanding the new development methodology that the CryEngine3 offers. You build your game in CE3, then basically "mix it down" to each platform. The engine knows what each system can and can't do, and renders the game according to such. This could mean certain lighting effects appearing in the xBox version and not in teh PS3 version, and vice versa. The xBox version will get whats good for it, the same for PS3, and PC will get everything. It will be the same basic game, but there will be different nuances.

Fixed, cause we've never heard that one before.

Dude I can't wait. I was a big fan of Crysis as it did most things very well.

LOL @ the haters. You can't please some people. Plenty of games that are multiplatform are awesome on PC. This doesn't look like a port and people predicting it's going to be "consolized trash" are assuming a lot. Usually the same people who whine about the smallest hint of DRM, and want a PC exclusive perfect game for $10.

Yeah...I've bought plenty of console ports to PC, and it's not like they're ruined or something:

Assassin's Creed
Batman Arkham Asylum
Bioshock 2
Borderlands
Cod4
Fallout 3
GRID
GTA IV and EFLC (performance could be better...but meh)
Mass Effect
Mirror's Edge
Prototype
Serious Sam HD
Street Fighter IV

Yea I just don't get what the deal is with all these haters. Sure a bunch of ports to PC suck hard, but there are a bunch that are good too...and of all the bad ones, I don't see how Crytek would be likely to produce a bad game.

I personally like the fact that the game is optimized to the point where it will still look good on my PC without me having to have a liquid nitrogen NASA supercomputer. But if I decided to buy one, I could, and it would look even better.

And honestly, if people want to play the "port" card, technically, it would be said that CryEngine games are made for the Sandbox, then ported to PC, xBox, and PS3.

Oh? What sort of platform did they use to develop Sandbox, do you think?

Apologists.

I don't understand.... Games are developed within the sandbox. When you are done with everything, you export the levels to a certain format. PC, xbox, or ps3.

But game design is the same. Look at the screenshots. There is no foliage, large draw distances, wildlife, mountains, etc. There are generic large buildings everywhere which makes the game have very short draw distances. This would not have been the same game had it been exclusive on the PC. Imagine how cool it would be if Crysis took place in the Amazon. If they had to do it in a city why not put it in Shanghai, Hong Kong, or Tokyo?

You're right. They should just drop ps3 and xbox360 so that PC gamers get to enjoy seeing higher draw distances in the jungle. I mean, it's all about the draw distance right? How am I supposed to get a hardon without being able to see 3 miles in any direction?

Two extensive interviews talking about CryEngine3, including native StereoScopic 3D support. :p

Apparently, they are going to be offering a free version of CryEngine 3 to help spawn development on the engine. As it is now, (with CryEngine 2) all mod development is done on CE3 via an installed instance of Crysis and the SandBox Editor and mods require Crysis to be installed.

Actually, at the last showing of gameplay in NY a few days ago, a select crowd got to see extensive in game action of an xBox360 build. The reporter noted that, short of the introduction, the real game starts with the character up high in a building overlooking the city, in a scene that required 'extensive' draw distances because you are high enough to see the entire city. He also said there is a lot of action where you are up high in buildings, moving around jumping from building to building trying to fight aliens that are scaling the buildings. kind of like the game "prototype".

So I guess when you are down on the ground, the required draw distance is less because almost any building will shorten the required view. But when you are up high, it exposes much of the city so that does require heavy draw distance.
