More money does not equal more sex!

WASHINGTON, June 10 (AFP) - More money does not lead to more sex, economic researchers concluded in a study released by a major US economic institute.

The study by David Blanchflower of Dartmouth University and Andrew Oswald of Britain's Warwick University focused on the "still relatively unexplored links between income, sexual activity and well-being," the economists wrote.

The study was published last month as a working paper by the National Bureau of Economic Research, which is better known for its determination of recessions and US business cycles.

The researchers, who based the report on a survey of 16,000 Americans, said the effort was part of an "emerging branch of economics" aimed at determining "the empirical determinants of happiness."

This was the first effort to study "econometric happiness equations in which sexual activity is an independent variable."

"The paper finds that sexual activity enters strongly positively in happiness equations," the economists wrote.

"Greater income does not buy more sex, nor more sexual partners. The typical American has sexual intercourse two to three times a month."

The report found "no statistically significant correlation" between levels of income and sexual activity.

"Money, it seems, does not buy more sexual partners."

The survey found 19 percent of the "low-income" group reported having sex two to three times a week, compared with 21 percent of the "high-income" group. But only six percent of the high-income group reported sex four or more times a week, compared with eight percent of the low-income respondents.

The report concluded that married people have more sex than those who are single, divorced, widowed or separated, and that the "happiness-maximizing" number of sexual partners is one.

It also found that 2.5 percent in the survey claimed to be homosexual, and concluded that "homosexuality has no statistically significant effects on happiness."

While higher frequency of sex was associated with higher levels of happiness, the researchers said the cause and effects were unclear: "working out whether sex causes happiness or causality runs in the reverse direction will be particularly difficult here," they said.

It doesn't. For all we know the poor people could be screwing ugly people.

I think most people's experience shows that guys with lots of money can get hotter chicks than they otherwise could get. What this study shows is that they're not having that much sex with the hot mates compared to other people.

ahh good point. Okay back to thinking of schemes to become filthy rich!

Spending too much time earning that wealth means less play time and less energy for such endevors. I'm also old enough to realize that "hot chicks" are overrated. They know they hot and are often high matainance. They make good ornaments though. Some of the best in the sack are the ugly chicks. They try harder.

typically the academics totally miss the point with their stats exersise.

firstly paupers
they have more time to do it
have little self respect and standards
are easily influenced by charismatic paupers
are more likely to inflate the numbers to boost their egos

rich people
many rich people are stuck in dead marriages
are professionals who dont do sex and work too much
the highly sexed professionals probably wouldnt bother with a survey like this

at the end of the day if you are rich and you waqnt it, you will get it good.

Also I personally think that sex is vastly overrated in this country and the media, and many more educated realise this, whereas the less well to do follow what they see on TV like sheep, so instead of going for the great intellectual relationship they focus on who is the best bang.

Americans underrate sex compared to many other nations.

Personally, I rate sex very high inasmuch at my age I don't get as much of it as I used to. 🙂

3 to 4 times per month?

Good grief, what are Americans doing, hugging their Beemers? Scary....

on my way home i went through green park and kensington tonite, and believe me, if the guys dont shag those hotties, they are really wasting this resources.

Most wealthy people are older.

As you get older your sex drive is reduced 🙁. However, when it happens, it is appreciated more. 😀
