more Mhz and CAS3 at 150FSB or less Mhz and CAS2 at 133?

Which would be the best trade off here? I read that recent article which indicated that to get the same memory bandwidth at CAS3 youd have to run your FSB at 150 to get the same bandwidth at CAS2 at 133. So, opinions? Is it best to crank your CPU up to high speeds at the expense of bandwidth or no?

If your CPU will do a 150 FSB, I'd use it at 150. Or, better yet, buy some RAM that'll do CAS2 @ 150 MHz.

well I can get to 135 at CAS2 I havent push it up anymore cause the CPU bails on me, but I think I can get it higher. whenever my 650e comes in then I will find out. Still I didnt ask so much cause I wanted to know for me, im just curious what peoples opinion is, more speed or more bandwidth.

I recently read an extensive test of clockspeed increase vs. latency increase.
According to that guy, cas2 at 133 MHz was so fast, that you'd need to go to AT LEAST 150 at cas3 to make up for the drop in performance.

In other words, if you manage to push your ram to 135 or 138 at cas2, you'd be putting less strain on your cpu AND you'd still be running faster than a system at cas3 / 150 fsb...

yeah i think thats the same review I read, but I dont think that he considered the increase in CPU speed overall, just the increase in memory bandwidth. Thats why I was curious if the benefit of increasing the CPU speed while lowering the memory bandwidth is worthwhile

I had a similar problem. My cpu goes to 146...my Micron Cas3 PC133, would actually do about 133 at Cas2. So I traded my Micron + cash for some Muskin Hand Picked w/ Mosel chips--now I'm running at 146FSB & my RAM is at Cas2 w/o any problems.

P3V4X - Bios 1005
600E @ 876MHz
2x128 Mushkin/Mosel Cas2 @ 146MHz

yep cas2 is much better
but is it stable though at that speed
are they rated at that latency time
thats the question

I haven't had a single crash or lockup at this speed since I got my new RAM a few days ago. Have run lots of Q3 & SETI...no problems here...& I increased my Q3 framerates by about 20fps on average.
