After June 30th. The Iraqi Government will have plenty of time to pick the official national anthem, Flag, Shrub, Tree, Flower, camel, oil company, and model of Ak-47. Thats about all the power they will have.

Though the new flag wouldn't be a bad idea. Black on a flag isn't really fitting.

So, the two blue lines represent the Tigris and Euphrates and the yellow represents the Kurdish minority? Won't that raise some ire amongst other Iraqis?

The new flag does seem in good taste in its inclusiveness. I'm sure there will be some objections to it, but nothing that cannot be worked out over time. Once a legislative body comes into being, they can revisit the decision by the governing council on the flag. But for now, a new flag of any sort is a good symbol of Iraq's new course in government (whatever it may be).

Heh, nice guess, but civ101 was a long time ago. I rarely skipped it, though the newspaper was always more interesting than moments and trusses.

I didn't realize that the Iraqis had a beef with the old pre-Gulf War flag. They certainly seemed to be waving enough of them around last year.

when they were describing it on the radio they gave the impression it looked just like the israeli flag, no mention at all of how the stripes are at the bottom and the stripes have a yellow stripe between them.

It's ugly and unimaginative. I like the 2 river theme, but the rest is just lame. Also, how come there is only a stripe for Kurds? what about Sunny and Shiites? Aren't they 90% of population?
