They are working on it.

And why dis the 8800's?

The 8800 GTS card, at least, is not that big, and doesn't use that much power. In fact, it fits and runs perfectly in a Dell xps 410 with it's dual 12V rail 375W PSU.
 
I wish they would put a Mr. Big chocolate bar next to it for scale, I know I can fit a MR. Big in my case.

I can't disagree with you regarding the size and power requirements getting out of hand, but at least in the case of the 8800 you can't really say "same old card with more of this and faster that" - G80 was a vastly vastly different architecture than anything before it and wasn't anywhere near a rehash of existing designs.

Thanks for the link, hadn't seen that. I will still wait for more of these to show up in the wild before passing judgment but this is a start assuming it's real.

EETimes and TheRegister separately reported on ATi R600 Crossfire sightings at the San Francisco launch. AMD has publicly demonstrated a Barcelona system with a pair of 200W R600 cards running in Crossfire mode which is capable of hitting one teraflop. The article mentioned that researchers at Stanford were already writing supercomputing applications for R600 and that R600 uses 320 multiply-accumulate (MAC) units which could imply 40 vec4 per GPU and ~800MHz clock.

The reasons for R600 delay cited by Henri Richard: "R600 is doing very well and there's a reason we're going to launch it when we're going to launch it...I'll take the blame. Launching Direct X 10 chipsets piecemeal was not welcome with AMD's OEMs, and would not give the best economic value for the firm, despite the clamour for new kit from hardcore gamers and computing enthusiasts." Our sources told us that X2900XTX will only be available in limited quantities when launched

The only reason for a delay would be that it's broken. What other reason would let them hand over market share every day to NVIDIA?

Although don't ever expect a marketing department to say that it's f***ed up.

wow thats long.

if you have a small case like say a mATX case or something, hehe that thing will be sticking out th front. dremel the floppy bay out then the fan can suck fresh air from the front of the case, it'll be ghetto as and ill love it.

Yea I am a NVIDIA fanboy. The only reason I have to explain is that my first card was a NVIDIA TNT and Ive been in love with them since. Yea I know its dumb. 🙂

My screen name is based off a comment by Fredrick Douglas. 🙂
 
Just looking at the actual PCB of the card you can tell that the fan extends way beyond it - those claiming that this design is for OEMs seem to have a very valid point.

For those comparing this thing to the Voodoo 5 6000, it would also have to be clearly slower to a current nVidia card as well as less feature rich - which early indications seem to hint otherwise.
