ok new user to firebird/mozilla. So far it's been great. Faster than IE, tabbed window interface is awesome, and i like the bookmarking system. Got a few questions/complaints, though, that maybe some more experienced users can answer

1) Many sites out there are optimized for IE. They don't support mozilla code, esp sites with active X or other advanced features. Since the vast majority of users out there are running IE, i don't expect this to change. How are all of you handling this? Just opening IE when you need to?

2) I hate when i click a link and it opens in a new firebird window. (like a new instance, not a new tab). Is there any way to consolidate tabs into one instance of the browser? I can't drag and drop em...

3) I keep accidentally closing the firebird window, losing all the sites i was on. Isn't there some sort of option i can enable that has a "are you sure you want to close all the tabbed windows" prompt?

thanks...

Just open IE...thats about all you can do :(

Well thats a JS link so FB is doing the correct action...again its the fault of the site author not FB.

Theres an setting in the Tabbed Browser extension, 'Forbid window close if multiple tabs exist'. That would do what you want, though before you want to close Firebird for real you'd have to close all open tabs first - no biggie.

There's also an "undo Close Tab" option in TBE also. Works great, take it from me. All you do after you inadvertantly close the wrong tab is right-click on an empty area of the tab area and choose "undo close tab" and it will re-open that tab. TBE also has the ability to open all windows in a new tab instead of a new iteration of the browser.

Get yourself Tab Browser Extension and play around.

For 2), there is a way to fix this. If you type about:config into your url bar, a large menu comes up of every variable available for the program. If you scroll down, there should be an option for browser.tabs.opentabfor.windowopen. Right click it, hit modify, and then change the value to "true".

Edit: Also, I belive that there is an ActiveX plugin that has been written for the Mozilla code. The problem is that, since it is ActiveX, it is a security risk, and you would be better off avoiding using it.

Get Tabbrowser extensions for Firebird. It'll add the confirmation dialog and it'll open new windows as tabs.

i use ie when needed.

as said, middle click to open in new tab

as for the X out the entire process .. i usually just middle click the tab and it closes. this way, i don't gotta worry about the TAB X. More effecient for me.
