More humor at Best Buy

I'm sure you've heard stories about Best Buy and their complete lack of knowledge when it comes to computers. I get a kick out of some of the stories I have heard. Today I got one of my own. I was looking for a VGA -> DVI adapter, as my video card has only DVI output while the monitor is VGA. Well, Radio Shack didn't have any, so I started calling places up to see who did. CompUSA has them, but only through the website. I call Best Buy, and no joke, the guy tried telling me they don't exist. He says, "Not gonna happen. Can't do analog to digital, it's like blah blah blah blah" I cut him off, informing him they exist and my friend has 3 of them. He's completely baffled. He quickly recovers and in an effort to cover up his ignorance he stutters out "Do they work?" and then "You'd probably get really low quality blah blah blah". What a moron.

😀

I had a guy at radio shack who kept arguing insistently that no such converter as "S-Video to composite" existed. "It's impossible to convert the signals because they're different and use a different video encoding. It's hard to understand and explain, but trust me; it's not possible and nobody will have them"

went online and bought myself one 😛

you're a sucker if you are gonna buy a 2 dollar vga to dvi adapter at best buy for 20 dollars...

I was in a BB picking up a switch for work (need it right away) and overheard a tech talking to a customer about hard drives. I had never heard so many stupid things out of the mouth of one employee. I broke into the conversation, and told the customer that he was getting incorrect info, and filled him in with the BB employee arguing the whone time, until I read the damn info right off the box. How hard is it to read a box?

Aren't those DVI -> VGA connectors kinda expensive for something relatively so small? My suggestion is to get a FLAT LCD with DVI input dawg!

In all seriousness, did you tell the guy he was a n00b before you hung up? Cuz I hate when they think they're right but they're not.

don't talk about s-video ->composite adapters and radioshack in the same sentence!!!

I went there one day cause I needed one of those since my 6800 didn't include one. It was 29bucks! I bought it, posted a thread about it and someone linked one at provantage. How much was it? $1.74!!!!!!!

I used that thing for 2 weeks until the one from provantage arrived and returned that. Let alone the salespeople there are douchebags.

The Radioshack closest to my house is suprisingly good. The woman (yes, a girl) actually knew what was up and she actually helped me. It was amazing. I felt like tipping her but I had already spent 115+ on stuff.

I don't think those exist, only DVI to VGA exist. It converts the DVI signals from the card to VGA for the monitor. Do they create adapters the convert VGA signals from the card to DVI for the monitor? 😕

The guy at Best Buy was correct. You can't do VGA to DVI. But you can have a DVI to VGA connector. And only if the graphics card supports this feature. Basically, the DVI connector spec has wires for both analog and digital signals.
