I can't seem to find exact numbers, first it was a dozen, then three. But this guy had an AR-15 and a pistol. When interviewed it was the normal "just exercising my rights". AZ is an open carry state. Good for him/them, no arrests made as nothing illegal was occurring. Also notice that ever present scare tactic - "an assault rifle".

Sorry for the blog post, all I could find on it quickly.

"(CNN) ? At least two Arizona men brought assault rifles to President Obama?s speech Monday to the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Phoenix.

CNN?s Ed Henry reported that one of the men was carrying an AR-15 assault rifle and shouted anti-Obama slogans. The men remained outside the convention center where the president was speaking. Henry said U.S. Secret Service and local police were "very much aware" of the situation and were paying close attention to the men.

However, Arizona is an open-carry state, meaning it's legal to carry firearms in public as long as they are visible."

how things have changed eh? Protesters couldn't carry signs where bush could see them from his car and now we get loons waiving guns around convention centers. I say its a good sign.

Don't know. Probably just concerned citizens trying to make a statement about their rights and if their message gets heard, that's a good thing IMHO.

I'm all for gun rights, which is why this bothers me. Showing off your scary guns like this is a good way to get the grabbers riled up. Just because you can doesn't mean you should yadda yadda yadda.

It could go eitherway. It could show people - "look, this really isn't a big deal, just a right. Nothing happened because of responsible gun owners"

Passions run too high at political rallies for it to be a good idea for the genreal public to be carrying dangerous weapons. It's like being allowed to bring weapons into court or onto a plane to defend yourself-far greater harm to the public will result because of the presence of these guns.

If nothing else the presence of (non-police) armed with deadly weapons has a chilling effect on the rest of us who wish to peacefully express our opinions at such events. All it takes is one angry hothead to result in tragedy.

Well, an AR-15 is pretty damn close to an assault rifle.

Fine, when (or even if it ever has) that happens you may have a point. Open or concealed carry takes a great amount of responsibility for the owner - that whole with great freedom comes great responsibility famous quote.

Fixed?

Strange that we see such a blossoming of freedom of speech of expression under a Marxist-Socialist Muslim would-be dictator...

That certainly explains all of the bloodbaths that have taken place in recent weeks at the rallies where citizens have carried their guns.

Please define "assault rifle" for me.
An AR-15 lacks the selective fire feature that is one determinant of an "assault rifle".

As do virtually all the rifles banned under the "assault weapons" legislation...

You ever live in an open carry state? I can tell you it really is no big deal here.

Select-fire (Auto/burst) rifles and machine-guns are actually not banned now. In fact, they never really were.

So, if that ain't it, what other features could possibly qualify a rifle as an "assault rifle"?

EDIT: Here's a hint, there is no right answer because the term itself has no real meaning outside of politics.

Oh yes, the administration that tinfoil beanie-wearing wingnuts are still oh so certain is going to ban guns but instead the only action it has taken on gun control has been to repeal a Reagan era law forbidding concealed carry in national parks.

:p

Actually, it has nothing to do with any AWB, and everything to do with the 1934 NFA. AWB are nothing more than feel good bullshit draped on the American people by ineffectual liberals that refuse to acknowledge the real problem is the criminals that use the inanimate objects.

Don't get the wrong impression, I would be stand next to these guys with my lib scaring AK if it had been here, and open carry was legal in my state. As it is, we have to conceal carry. I just like to be honest about firearms, and honestly, these are as close as most civilians come to "assault rifles", which is what I said earlier, "pretty damn close to".

The law just sunset under Obama and he refused to reinstate it despite the screaming protests of the National Park Service.

What I'm telling you is that you're disconnected from reality. Obama doesn't care about your guns.

He's correct, select fire IS the quantifying feature that seperates a civilian version, from a true assault rifle, you are also correct that they are NOT illegal :)
