Ok Mccall....so explain to us why this matters? why does it matter that its against the law to require a purchase?

My point is, why does everyone need to scrutinize everything svc does.

Cuz people are still pissed off at SVC from screwing thier orders, most likely...

no problems here

Safoo: Aajax pointed out that the contest SVC is running is illegal in many states. Chizow argued it was not. I was clarifying the point that yes, it is indeed illegal.

As to why it matters - don't expect this contest to be honored in this form IF they are either reported to the appropriate authorities or if someone makes them aware of its illegality. They'll either end/cancel the contest or change the rules so you don't have to make a purchase, at least that's what a prudent company would do anyway.

I Personally have no beef with SVC as a company. I don't remembering ordering from them so if I did it went smoothly.

No, I understand the law, but again, each state defines contest, sweepstakes, or lottery differently. Regardless, if you feel your rights are being violated and state law is being broken, feel free to file a complaint with your local DA or Consumer Affairs Department.

And again, if you want to be technical, the rules don't say anything about purchasing anything:

To qualify, you must (1) leave a resellerrating, and (2) email freecase@svc.com

Anyone with access to the internet and an e-mail account can perform the two requirements for contest entry. But then again, people like you would argue that it requires the purchase of a PC and internet service.

Uh, just to be "technical", you forgot the rest of the rules:

To qualify, you must (1) leave a resellerrating, and (2) email freecase@svc.com with your order number and your resellerrating user id.

You can keep insisting you don't need to make a purchase in order to enter. I'm done.

OK, LETS RIP ON SVC, WHEN I SPECIFICALLY REMEMBER XOXIDE DOING SOMETHING ALMOST IDENTICLE TO THIS IF NOT EXACTLY AND DONT REMEMBER NE 1 COMPLAINING!!

3. Cold Cathode Tubes (for above kit): 4.99
4. Chrome atomic energy & biohazard finger guards: $1.99

6. the usual

BUTTERFLY PHOTO gives you a free shipping upgrade if you give them a 5 STAR rating on pricegrabber.com. Poor Company too.. I vow that we all give both places 1's

ordered once from them and received everything without a hitch. Frankly i don't give a crap whether they run a contest or not.

Hey I think they have been receiving emails like AAjax's. Check it out

"To qualify, you must (1) leave a resellerrating, either GOOD, BAD, OR NEUTRAL, and (2) email freecase@svc.com with your order number and your resellerrating user id. The winner will be announced at www.svc.com no later than March 31, 2003. Void where prohibited."

It even says "Void where prohibited." So if it is illegal for you to make a purchase to be in a contest, you can't be in the contest anyway. Quit arguin'.

SVC is alright by me. They shipped me the wrong color case once, then mailed me the correct one immediately. They of course paid for return shipping!

I got the same email in question and I guess maybe its kinduv bad practice, but really all I care about is the service. They have GREAT prices and low priced/fast shipping. Have ordered from them twice and everything has been perfect. Why would I care if they get good referalls?
