... I can still remeber from couple years ago, similiar online service called bigger.net who was out of business soon after ppl paid up that 'life time' account.

Hope this one doesn't ends up like them!

There may be a small fee of $5 - $15 but for 5x the bandwidth and website space it would be worth it.

Gah, I keep getting different answers on the chat. One minute, people say I can't do this, the next minute, people say I can, and Shawn isn't responding to my questions. Jeez, all I want is a simple answer,.

guys, this is starting for some reason to scare me. there is a saying:
if its too good to be true, it is might apply here.

i signed up for some of his plans, but i don't see how they can handle all that traffic for peanuts. i know that a lot of people will get the hosting plans and then not use them that much (there is a lot of garbage out on the net), that is the business model he is going to use probably.

i really don't doubt it

Thats part of it, but the bigger part is that I think he's trying to get marketing share. It works if you can keep it up and alive during the period where you aren't making much money. Look at amazon.com, they finally made money this last quarter. Microsoft also started out that way.

i agree with you in principle. but, how could he afford to sell lifetime (3-5 year) hostings for $30. what is the premise behind that. amazon sells products daily. this guy is charging too little for alot.

I hope that he succeeds in his deeds, because if he does, prices everywhere for hosting will go down.

I got an account when the first deals popped up and I've been happy with Cyberwings. But all these crazy specials they have going on scares me. Feels like they are about to go under, ala Cyberrebates.

However, amazon sells the stuff for basically what it costs them to buy it. Up until a few months ago they hadn't made ANY money, not a penny. Amazon has been selling the stuff basically at cost to gain marketing share, and its worked. Their last quarter they were finally able to report a profit. Amazon sells far more sure, but they have much more market share, and books are less of a niche market than hosting is. Everyone has at least one book at home, not everyone has a hosting account :)

Anyway, I'm impressed with the speed improvements they've done, when I first sent in the setup form for my first account it was may 17th. It took until the 4th of this month to get that one set up. I knew when I sent it in it would be two weeks, based upon comments here, and I was expecting it so it didn't bother me. Yesterday I sent in the setup form for the other 2 individual accounts I got at the $3.90 price, and TODAY I got the setup form. They are apparently caught up with pretty much all the account setups. I've changed the DNS name servers at godady and now I'm just waiting for the changes to propogate. Woot!

Buyer Beware:

I say this and I too have two I5 accounts that I invested a whole $7.80 on. I figure after a month or so I break even but all that Lifetime crap last night left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Think about it for a moment, A reseller account with 2gb storage and 50gb transfer for a lifetime for a one time payment of $100.00. I don't care how cheap bandwidth is or if he buys his servers through AT Dell deals and gets the harddrives at Staples...he can't be making money because ultimately resellers will use bandwidth. Take the $100, subtract $5 for the merchant fees, that leaves $95 at 10% per anum he gets a measly $9.50 a year to maintain his services. Think of what it takes to run a data center, the batteries alone for the backup cost more than that per year! Another question to be placed is the definition of Lifetime, if I sign up as a corporation it means that cyberwings has to provide hosting in perpetuity for $100. Just inflation alone halfs the value of that $100 every 12 - 14 yrs. Now think about that as u are running to paypal to send your money. I was in the chat last night and asked for monthly plans many times and was all but ignored. All the promotions were based on one time upgrade fees, annual plans, and lifetime plans. If that doesn't concern anyone then maybe it is just me. Fasteddie stated in the forum that he had AT and Fatwa||et covered and he would send any negative comments to Shawn...well here is my comment, forward as you see fit, I don't hide, and if Shawn and Cyberwinds are serious, let's see a valid business plan with audited financial statements. Anyone can give away hypothetical bandwidth but it takes a serious firm to be there for the long haul. When selling lifetime memberships and collecting all the money up front it is easy to put on a nice show but six months from now we will be looking at another Cyberrebates. He can't make money at the rate he is going and if he is only in it for phillantropic reasons then prove it.:Q

Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me. First he offers the low rates, and everyone takes notice, and signs up. But he doesn't have the bandwidth to support the user, so he has to attract more customers to help pay off the first wave. And now, everytime, he has to offer better and better deals so that more and more people sign up. The lifetime deal is just REDICULOUS. Why would anyone possibly pay $100 to some stranger through paypal for a verbal agreement of service? Think about it, does he give out any written agreements that binds him to what he is promising to everyone? People, just drink a glass of water, take a deep breath and think about the situation. It is clearly a scam. Don't be fooled into thinking its just a good deal.

you don't have to flame that much. but they are going to a lot of trouble, that much i do know. if this is some ponzi scheme, he spent a lot of money time and effort on this scheme. otherwise it is good enough for me.

it really seems limp in there tonight.

Lots of waiting and no payoff.

bsdwebhosting.net is better to my way of thinking.

Welp. all you naysayers can sit around and ignore this deal. I'm going to start figuring out how to set up a hosting reselling business with my free account. 8 People last night won reseller accounts, and he hinted that more would be given out tonight. He's going to be doubling his servers at his data center this month, so these accounts spread over a number of servers really isn't all that much.

If it folds, I haven't lost anything on my free account. I might lose the few individual accounts I have, at $3.90 a year, but that's nothing. Feel free to pass up this oppurtunity, I'm not. I'm excited about the possibilities. I mean the company hosts like 14,000 web sites now, I don't think he's going down right away. He's just trying to use the business model that Microsoft and Amazon have used, gain market share. The critial period is right now, if he can keep it going long enough to get a market share he has it made.

This page is back up tonight:
http://www.cyberwings.com/hosting/chatsale.html

New and updated deals.
/me goes back to IRC

BTW, he mentioned that any NEW reseller accounts will have to wait 1-2 weeks because he's out of IP's temporarily to assign them private name servers. In a week or two he's getting another class C domain thing. He also said that if you want to use a public nameserver temporarily, they probably can arrange something until they get the additional IP addresses.

Far less time, effort and money than Cyberrebate spent. He doesn't have to ship anything out, store merchandise, purchase an inventory of thousands of items, process rebates, etc. He only has to own and maintain some servers, it all happens in the cloud. But at least he's not selling his wares at 10 to 20 times their suggested price. Risking less than I spent on postage for CR rebates sounds fine to me. IMO.

It wouldn't let me say anything in the chat room. It kept saying "cannot send message." What is wrong? Why won't it work? Someone please help.
