http://members.easynews.com/survey/

March 08, 1:30pm PST --

We now have another method to earn 2 extra gigs per month. By taking
the survey at http://members.easynews.com/survey/ once a week, you can
earn 500 megs of download credit, for a total of 2 gigs per month
(actually, 2.17gigs per month if averaged over a year).

Keith and Mark worked to build the survey application. Let them know
how you like in easynews.general.

This is in addition to our grid.org program. You can earn at *least*
2 gigs per month by participating in the grid.org program. For more
information see http://easynews.com/cancer/

And as a reminder, NNTP traffic is discounted by 25% (for a total of 8
gigs per month if you use NNTP exclusively).

For those NNTP users, if you participate in the grid.org project and
take the survey, you now can download at least 13.3 gigs per month for
$9.98!

I did find the link on their main page but found it here first! Nice! I hope they keep this survey program going.

Thanks...I never read their member page news posts, so I would never have found out about this.

yay for usenet fans.

im using 100proofnews -> http://www.100proofnews.com/
havent had a problem with it, and its ridiculously cheap, unlimited for $9 a month

i also have a 25gb account with astraweb -> http://news.astraweb.com/ which i use for fills sometimes.

i really like the 25gb pricing plan at astraweb. i wish easy news or supernews would offer a plan like that. i would be all over easynews for $25 for 20gb that doesnt expire.

Easynews will give you 13 for $10, at that rate you could get 26GB for $20. Although you'd lose it if you didn't use it in a month. I guess you'd probably have to have two accounts to get the credits as I believe thee credits are only once a month per account.

I got Astraweb too. It's pretty much the only news server I could find that didn't have a time limit to use up the quota. Most servers have soemthing like 20 gig/30 days, whichever comes first. I paid 10 for 25 gigs I think, and I'm just slowly using it up for fills and whatnot. 10 day retention or so, and I've had it for like 3 months. I use it to complement my Roadrunner news server.

Yeah, they do, but what I was getting at was this 13GB/$10 had GB credits that I think you can only earn once per month on your account. With those GB credit you got a total of ~13GB on the NNTP server. So in order to get those credits twice, you'd have to sign up for two separate accounts. I hope that makes sense. :)

Edit: If you go over your limit you can set it up so that you just can't download anything over your limit. Or you can have do like you said, charge you automatically for another $10.

My account just cuts off when I reach my limit. Depending on what I'm doing, I could renew at that point for 9.98

I'm a usenet junkie

20Gb plan @ GigaNews (kick ass retention)
50Mb/Day plan @ TeraNews (free account for posting)
ISP provides supernews (fills and free downloading)

Sad thing is that I always get damn close to my quota or hit it.

I've been using ForteAPN

I've used it since january.. for 14.95 it's unlimited and i get 10 days retention. If you need more than 10 you aren't downloading enough :D

some groups have higher retention based on use but even the largest has 10 days.. I've got good speed through it and I'm quite a ways from it. I believe it's based off a couple other sub services that let agent use theirs.

I've occasionaly used a ds3 to download through it.. at 8mbit.. it's got throughput for sure. :D

my next fav server was easynews.. but not having an auto-gig feature when runnin the cancer agent was kind of sucky. and I had some issues getting credit. easy certainly has good retention and good bandwith i'm just liking unlimited more.. since 10 gigs can go pretty quick.

I signed on with http://usenetserver.com/ awhile ago on suggestion from the HD forum. I pay 15 bucks a month for unlimited downloads.
I like them because I DL binaries allot and they allow 6 concurrent logins per account which helps it saturate my comcast connection.

I use grabit http://www.shemes.com/ as a good newsreader for downloading binaries and it is all the way free. -It is configured for downloading using multiple connections, easy to use, stable, uses few resources, and saves as you go, so if my comp blows up, I can resume the downloads.

What's the retention on 100proofnews, and how fast does it actually go? I can DL at about 1200k/sec. I use UseNetServer, 40 bucks for 3 months, retention is about 12-14 days for the good binary groups. 22 days for sounds. i can usually get like 700k during the day, and i get max speed after 8 o'clock or so. i used to use astraweb, but then they figured out how to limit their speed correctly.

I use Usenetserver as well, can't beat the all-you-can-eat for $14.95/month. I can hit ~350-400 KB/s in the evenings, zoom zoom!

I tried 100Proof, and let me telll you, it was nothing short of a joke.

The fill rate was sometmes about 5% at best, than in some groups it would be 90%. Retention was again variable, from hours to a little over a day. Than there were all the times the network was down for "upgrades", "maintinance", and my favorite would be something like this: "our new upgrades are not working, we will have the system back up by XX" Of course, XX came and went, and the system would still be down.

I was left with the impression that they are a sorry group of scammers, or the most inept group of nerds trying to do something they think is cool, but is totaly beyond there grasp.

Thanks for the info. I'll stick with my UseNetServer.com, seems to be the best one I could find.
