More FPS in CRYSIS

OK I bought my PC back in December, I think its the nuts, I love it.

Anyway when I bought it I was led to believe it would probably be able to get 30fps minimum on Crysis w/ settings maxed out. I run it in 1680x1050, Enthusiast settings, vsync, 4x AA. It runs at 20fps steady, which is unacceptable. This is also with my CPU (2.66ghz std OC'd to 3.2ghz and my GFX card OC'd a little as well, WITH a lot of air cooling, and fans on GFX card turned up to 75%, its so loud, but runs at UNDER 40 degrees Celcius)

I bought another gigabyte 512mb 4870 today, hopefully I should see some improvement, with 2 cards in Xfire.

Beyond that, I am not sure what I can do, get more memory, water cooling...

Pretty sick that a game from like 2 years ago still owning the hardware of today.

ANY TIPS?

so with both of them you get 20 FPS at 1680? or just one? set it up with both cards and get back to us.

alright, well with a single GPU at 1680 with 4x AA, 20 FPS is exactly where you should be. You might get 30-35 with the second card. not what you want to hear, but that's the way it is. Of course, you could wait a few more days, sell both your cards and get a single radeon 5850 for $300 and be getting over 40 FPS with those settings.

wow dude sounds like the thing i want. back in December the word on the grapevine was like "get ATI, nVidia are only marginally better in performance with their best card, but their card costs like twice as much, not worth it" so did that and glad. still the same situation? apparently phenoms are still terribad compared to i7....

got a link to benchs for 5850? didnt know it was gonna rape crysis that much, wasnt thinkin of upgrading like that.

they never do the benches on highest settings, quite annoying, like.. i dont care what it runs like at 1024x768 w/ everything on high, like WHO runs that game with that res when most ppl got 17+ inches monitor???? pointless imo

The 5870 is going to run you 399, but it will be a beast. I think the 5850 at 299 will be more in my price range.

Sorry to hear you got the wrong card man. But LOL.

Dude, seriously? Is that in UK Pounds Sterling or US$? £400 for a GFX card?! YEAH RIGHT.

Anyway, I checked out some leaked benches for that 5870, apparently it runs like GOD and is TWICE+ as good as previous cards incl nVidia's top one. If it is a beast, I want it! It supposedly does over 40+ fps on Enthusiast @ 1680x1050 on Crysis so I am going to be happy if it does.

Yah a 5870 is supposed to be faster than two of those 48701GB's in crossfire, and about equal to a GTX295 dual-gpu card. The 399 price is in US dollars. Sucks you ordered the wrong card, man... heheh.
