That's awesome. Now I want to see it catch a frisbee!

actually, it reminds me of the dog in HL2.

Holy crap.

When it slipped on ice.... it moved exactly in the way my dog does when it slips.

Now we need to attach a laser to his head

Nice, but I'd say Asimo is much cooler. I saw a demonstration in person and it's really amazing how it runs, goes up and down stairs, plays soccer, etc.

Can you imagine bumping into that dog in the woods? All it needs is an alien growl...

Asimo is much cooler and quiet, this sucker sounds like my bro in laws 500cc dirt bike. But still cool none the less, the ice slip thing is pretty bad ass

Damn. Throw a weapons mount on that and have instant perfect aim sniping that could survive far longer than any human.

I'm pretty sure the loud noise is from a compressor.

Reminds me of hunters in HL2 EP2, they move exactly the same.....

wow...last time i saw this thing on TV/youtube, it had a powercable tethered to it.

I really thought the first vids on it were incredible. This one is very impressive.

Except that they were ever so slightly quicker. ;) And they could easily find their way onto and off of buildings. And they could take two hits from a gravity-gun-propelled log before going down. ;)

It's a shame that this is for the military (way too much money blown away on that already, worldwide), but it's good to see progress in basic robotics. I say "basic" because simple mobility on varying terrain strikes me as a "basic" feature for a robot to have.

The ice footage is impressive though. I think I'd want one of these instead of a horse. It'd sure be a lot easier to take care of - stash it in a closet and don't feed it. It won't care.:)
And give it another 20 years and $50M, we'll watch one run down a cheetah on an open plain.

Now George Lucas will buy one, do it up like on of the Imperial Walkers, and redo Empire Strikes Back, again.

I don't trust that Asimo. Looks like it's always sneaking around. :p

Damn thats good. I mean really good. I studied some of this at university and its come a long way in the few years since then.

Anyone who wants to get an idea how they do this stuff should look up Rodney Brooks, behaviour based robotics, reactive decision making - cool stuff.

They need to give it a head so it doesn't look like two guys with only torsos and legs. Talk about freaky...

His walk is sort of suspect now you mention it, Honda needs to rig him up with the same motor this dog has. Would be hard to sneak around when you sound like 10 chainsaws linked together.

Looks like the dog robot guards from Deus Ex 2.. or it looks like something from Silent Hill.

The stabilization is impressive, but the general movement isn't.

When the dude tried to kick it over, I actually said "whoa!" really loudly to myself. That was really cool.

Impressive.

But can it hump a leg?

I wonder if it has a front/back end. I'd imagine it could walk either direction.
