More Fake News!!

For all the noise over the wave of post-election hate crimes supposedly committed by Donald Trump supporters, it turns out the real epidemic is one of . . . blatant hoaxes.

An African-American church was torched last month in Greenville, Miss., with “Vote Trump” spray-painted on the walls. The initial New York Times account had stressed the Trump angle, though Mississippi officials cast doubt on any “political” motive from the start.

Now police have made an arrest — of an African-American parishioner of the church.
Other well-publicized fabrications:

  •  A Muslim student at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette admitted making up the tale of two men, one in a “Trump hat,” assaulting her and tearing off her hijab.
  •  Also owning up to a hoax was the guy who claimed he was assaulted in Malden, Mass., by two men chanting “Trump country.”
  • White men allegedly accosted a University of Minnesota student, yelling at her to “go back to Asia.” Now police say they couldn’t verify the incident — and she responded by deleting her Facebook account.
  • A Bowling Green U. student claimed men in Trump shirts threw rocks at her. But cellphone records show she wasn’t where she’d claimed during the incident — and on Facebook she said Trump backers should “all get AIDS.” She’s charged with obstruction.
Here in New York, of course, Yasmin Seweid was charged for falsely claiming she’d been beaten by men chanting, “Trump.”

In each case, the media accepted the initial story hook, line and sinker — and stressed the Trump angle.

Even without the Trump connection, the Times and other outlets ate up YouTuber Adam Saleh’s tale of being kicked off a flight just for speaking Arabic to his mom — which now stands exposed as yet another fake.

Which brings us to the larger point: A week or two back, the Times and its ilk were all over the threat of “fake news,” which supposdely enabled Trump’s election.

Obviously you don't understand the difference between the news reporting facts as they know it, then correcting them as they become updated, and a conspiracy tinfoil hat site making up pure bullshit stories like "Donald Trump Protester Speaks Out: ‘I Was Paid $3,500 To Protest Trump’s Rally." and "FBI AGENT SUSPECTED IN HILLARY EMAIL LEAKS FOUND DEAD IN APPARENT MURDER-SUICIDE"

you-keep-using-that-word.jpg

So let me help you. These examples you provide are examples of the news being hoaxed, the other is an example of the "news site" itself perpetrating a hoax.

Your examples are mistakes where the news org is lied to, and the truth is discovered and corrections reported.

My examples are fake news.

You sure are Smug about your Genius Explanations. 🙂

I believe they--Many News Stories-are not vetted properly before Printing: Some because of Incompetence and others with full intention of the Falsehood being presented, eg. "Hands up: Don't shoot--which never happened but was broadcast by CNN over and over again.

Whoosh, still sailing right over your head.

Your beliefs are irrelevant. The fact is, there is a difference between being honestly mistaken and/or hoaxed, and perpetrating the hoax yourself by making up stories out of thin air.

Try harder to not follow or confirm your beliefs, Because if you search to find evidence to confirm your beliefs, you'll always succeed, no matter what the objective facts really are.

There is a clear difference in credibility between say, for example, Infowars (who, within 45 minutes of the San Bernardino shootings had declared absolute proof it was a "false flag) and CNN. If you can't see it, your own bias is blinding you.

Would you say Hefe, that we have a PLETHORA of Fake news stories?

Oh yes, we have a plethora.

Fake news is like cockroaches, it doesn't get too far in a house that has journalistic integrity and was regulated to tabloids like "batboy" in the weekly world print publication over 20 years ago.

While you can quibble about the definition of what fake news is, the ease at which stories like in the op examples above are run without vetting just to be first or get internet clicks for ad dollars then turn around and use the excuse that they were "honestly mistaken and/or hoaxed" when it is revealed that they were false is far too prevalent today and helps contribute to an environment that allows fake news to thrive.

What type of vetting should have been done here?

It's sort of like that "fake science" from all them leftist research universities. Just make a list of everything the dummies can be easily led to believe is all wrong and let them have at it. It's not like they have the mental toolset to be convinced otherwise.

When it comes to woo and pseudoscience the rightwing has more than its fair share. We can start with creationism and all the "universities" that seek to "prove it" and go on to Mike Adams and Natural News who has been on Alex Jones Infowars who opens up a whole shit can of pseudoscience. In fact, the right wing is chock full of this bullshit. Chemtrails, antivax, hidden cancer cures, big pharma, HAARP... My god... Leftist? Seriously??? FYI, the woofuckers are spread pretty evenly over both sides.

Peer review scientific evidence guarantees that the conservative brain not only exists but is more subject to reality denial than the liberal brain and that furthermore, while the right can almost never be reasoned out of their madness, the mad left can be reasoned with. Your seemingly liberal and seemingly fair attempt at equality of insanity is denied by scientific studies. Are you now ready to abandon this false opinion you have?

Let' start with antivax, shall we?

The problem is not political ideology, it is a fundamentalist belief or worldview. Both the left, and the right have the ability to cling to their world view in the face of contradicting evidence. In the end, they're both human. That said, the right wing is in the lead, by a head.

Some scientist or other once believed in global cooling so obviously both sides equally bad.
