Did you have it price checked, or just read the sign on the shelf? I heard someone bought one and it was priced a lot lower at checkout.

Got the 30GB 7200 for 72 including tax today .. benched it under win98 with sandra at 21000 + on via. 50% faster than my old maxtor 7200 and it feels faster than that even. These WD BB series are NICE drives at a great price. unless you really need the space, the 30GB at this price is a way better deal than the 60GB based on speed.

lzpoof - I know what you mean. I have a couple hooked up in RAID and they really fly! Very cool running also. Anyone looking for a cheap IDE RAID config, this would be one great deal.

Lzpoof: A 60gb model has a much higher areal density... this makes it read data faster with each pass, even though it is passing by more slowly. A 60gb 5400rpm drive is actually FASTER than a 30gb 7200rpm if you read around and do the math :).

Based on previous Sam's Club threads, it seems that individual store managers have discretion to lower prices on their own (usually when they have just a few of the items left). So prices on the same item can vary drastically throughout the nation, and one Sam's Club store will generally not pricematch another Sam's Club store. . . .

Treasurehunter: When I went back to my Sams to pricematch the $84.91 after I already purchased 3 at $112.91, the woman argued me for about 2 minutes and then explained to me why the prices were different. I heard a lot of mumbo-jumbo but I interpreted it as certain Sams Clubs sell certain items better than others, so when they're not selling, they get rid of the items in a clearance and get new stuff that may sell. Can't quote me though, giving my opinion.

NOTE: All of you that tried getting a pricematch but couldn't, do this. Go into Sams just before they close, and cause a problem. Then start saying you'll "Click'N Pull" it from another store in another state to ensure your price, and most likely they'll give it to you. They did for me. Plus, they want to get the heck out of there. It's closing time. ;-)

You are talking about platter sizes, which has nothing to do with how large the size of the drive is. The 60GB drive could have 4 15GB platters, or 3 20GB platters. Currently, there are 15GB platters, and 20GB platters. the 75GXP is a 15GB platter, and the 60GXP is a 20GB platter. Like tiger said, the denser the platter is, it should technically be faster. The 60GXP isnt much faster than the 75GXP however. You wont be able to tell the difference, even on benchmarks. If you are talking about a 20GB platter 5400RPM drive vs. a 15GB platter 7200RPM drive (Which im sure is what you meant:D) the 15GB 7200RPM drive will still be faster.

Sam's is the wholesale/bulk division of WalMart, and they're nationwide.

I was able to do the Click n Pull switch the other day but not after being publicly humiliated in front of other customers. Went back today and it seems they have caught on and would not let me go thru with the deal after waiting around almost an hour.

My order was also cancelled by someone at samsclub.com.

Oh well, fun while it lasted!

Wow, I WD is a full quarter ahead of the competition on 30GB platter sizes. That still doesnt change the point though, RPM is still more important in performance than platter sizes.
