More conversion help - MIDI to MP3

This is not as easily done as you might hope; first you have to convert your MIDI to a WAV.

Why would you want to do that? It'd be like converting flash to a series of jpegs.

I need to convert in order to load it in a Premier movie. For some reason, Premier 6 won't recognize MIDI files. Unless anybody can help me just do that...

anyone know of some fancy shmancy programs that do the opposite? mp3 to midi. i remember finding some professional programs that did this, but i've long lost the bookmarks and names.

MP3 to midi would be horrible. midi is just a bunch of tones, mp3 is *audio*

it's like converting analog to digital. ick.

too bad there aren't many of us midi freaks out there anymore

MP3 -> midi would be like taking a CD and trying to write sheet music for it, right? And, you'd have to decode it to WAV first, I'm thinking.

I remember back in the day when MIDI's were ALL you had for computer music - and something like Windows Jukebox to actually play them ONE AFTER ANOTHER. Ah, the good ol' days before Winamp playlists.

Doesn't this work?

Load the midi up in winamp, select the direct to disk output plugin (write output to wav) and play the midi.... Then you can encode the wav into mp3 if you wish.
