Though such a mall would be nice to have in North America, I think that there are some reasons why they don't exist here:

1) Population concentrations. China, Japan, and Taiwan have very large populations cramped into vey limited spaces. There are a few cities in NA(LA, NY for ex) where such a mall could exist, but there are other factors to consider.

2) Buying habits. I don't have a clue how educated various Asian consumers are, but in NA most consumers are clueless when it comes to electronics. Along with the cluelessness they also have plenty of money, real or plastic, so they usually take the easy way and just buy a pre-made unit.

3) Are those shops only retail shops? Being that these malls are in the centers of electronic manufacturing, it wouldn't surprise me if these shops, or some at least, are also exporters. This is pure conjecture on my part, but if true then these malls would serve also as a mall for Importers from around the world.

Yea, I'd love to have a mall like that to go to, but I doubt I'll ever see one.

do you mind having 6Mbps at same price of 768k?
That wouldn't be a bad deal but in the long run it would just make me mad. I can't get 6Mbps downstream if the other end can't provide it...i.e. 6Mbps wouldn't make my AT browsing go any faster 😉

-- the other end would provide EVENTUALLY.

-- 16X DVD in Guangzhow is US $40. and I know every tourist to China buy loads of DVD movies at US $1.5, unless they don't where to get it or they don't watch DVD.
-- where do I get handpicked ram not at huge premium and the pre-mod Geforce4 Ti4200 at US $150???
-- at Fry's or newegg, do they have 200+ mid tower case in 30 colors, blade, 30+ book size, power supply from 50 manufacturers, 8 ram sinks, 60+ fans???... more competition means lower prices, higher quality, better service and more variety.

I bought a Lite-on 16x dvd retail from dell for $38 shipped 2 months ago.

Try to bring those pirate movie or software back to the US, if you got caught at the custom, US$1000 fine on each piece.

Labor cost in HK or China is way lower than in the US, so handpicked ram and pre-mod hardware are cheaper there is reasonable.

Are you in the computer business? Do you know in this computer world there are only few real ODM. In that 200+ case, 50+ power supply, 60+ fax, most are from the same ODM, manufacturered by the same factory, some are copycat bootleg products. In the US, newegg+directron although cannot provide these number, but they can provide about half of them, which is more than enough.

More competition means lower prices, lower quality, worse service, and more duplicated variety.

Every country has it own living style, living standard, living cost, business cost. Why should the business people bring more choices for the US consumers if they don't want, don't need, or can't afford?
