More CFM than Sunon : Less noise then the Delta?

I am currently running a Sunon 80mm fan on my SK6, I believe the CFM is something like 39 and the dba is only 32, so it's nice a quiet. However, it just doesn't cool as well as the 60mm Delta monster, which is too loud for my liking. Can anybody recommend an 80mm fan which will have better cooling power than my current Sunon 80mm but is not as noisy as the Delta?

I have seen a YSTech 47CFM (37dba) fan, will this perform as well as the Delta? FYI the Delta is 46dba...How much louder is 37dba than 32dba?

Thanks

Do you just have the 80 MM smacked on top of the SK6 or are you using a fan adapter. If no adapter, it could be part of your problem. The SK6 was deisgned so that a 60 MM fan pushes cool air down the middle and forces warm air out the sides. Check out this thread I started, it has great info about fan adapters. You need somthing to funnel the air down to 60 MM.

I bought a 92MM to 60 MM adapter and will be using it with a Panaflo 92MM low speed fan. It pushes 42.7 CFM @ 27 DBA. Cool & silent... yeah baby. Same performance if not slightly better with nearly 1/2 the noise of a Delta.

If you are using an adapter, there is a review I included in the thread on amdmb.com that reviews 3 fan adapters. My understanding from the article is that you want your adapter to be as short as possible. The higher it is... the more it disrupts the airflow in the case. So that also could be your problem.

Good luck.

Hey guys

I have the Sunon turned to a 45 degree angle so it fits under the clips. I can totally see why an adapter would be better! This arrangement still gives better performance than the 60mm 26CFM YSTech, which is the only other (decent) 60mm I have...

You're saying that if I got an adapter I could get Delta-like performance? Even with my current 39CFM Sunon? I don't know if there is anywhere in the UK where I can get one though 🙁

sanz - great link! Thanks! 🙂

Hehe found somewhere that sells them 🙂

How do I attach it though, the SK6 uses clips? Did you screw into the fins?

Dunno on that one. Take a look @ the review link. I think it has a pic of it. Fan screws onto the funnel. The funnel either clips in the same manner as the 60MM heatsink does (it's the same size) or it screws into the holes that the clips hook into. You might also be able to use the long clips that came with the heatsink (mine came with 2 sets). The one that I bought was from CPUFX. It's 1" high and had the best temperature results.

You don't know? I thought you had the SK6 and an adapter? You were able to use the clips?
