I'm sure most of you got the email from egghead saying a hacker got into their database.

Well, it hit home for me.
My Bank called me to tell me that egghead contacted them and said my info was comprimised on my visa, and they were issuing new cards.

After prying for further info, she said that 54 customers alone from my little one office credit union back home had their info comprimised on egghead. She said the egghead rep said that well over 50,000 customers CC info had been comprimised.

No weird charges for me yet but,
Watch your statements closely!!!!

This is only a hot deal because we're getting burned...

Yeah, I got charges on my account from the "russian federation." A name sure to raise an eyebrow at Visa.

They're issuing new cards....

My Visa account was put on hold because of the Egghead deal. They're flagging online transactions that don't require physical presentation of the card as "suspect."

I met the profile because I made a couple of purchases yesterday.

They suggested we cancel the account and have them issue new cards. I was very agreeable.

I heard that everyone who had a card stolen is going to have to pay at least $100.00 of it, probably up to $10,000.00 and that all their info has been sent to criminals all over the world. You will be cloned, and someday your clone migh show up and replace you.

In addition, the CIA is going to put stuff to track you in the cards and some will have drugs so they can test them out like they did with AIDS in the 1980's and LSD in the 1950's.

I too got the charge from the russian federation and my First Usa E-card was instantly revoked and they issued a new one. If I were anyone who shopped on egghead, check your account now just in case your credit card company was not as quick as mine!!!

I'm almost positive you are only responsible for the first $50 of credit card fraud, not the 1st $100.

I got a letter in the mail today (Dec 30th, 2000) from Washington Mututal that they are going to cancel my current card on Jan 9th, 2001 and I should have a new card in the mail before then due to the egghead.com problem.

No werid charges on my card yet but since my card is a "VISA Check Card" I went and emptied my checking account. No balance, no way they will get auth to charge my card, and I turned off overdraft protection.

At least I scored a double. I cancelled my credit card because of the creditcards.com incident, then a couple of days later got the email from egghead. Same credit card which I had already cancelled. I'm going to use those one time use numbers from now on. I looked at the card readers for the smart chip, and even though they required a pin number to autheorize it, the merchant still is sent the card number. So the one time use number seems like the way to go. If that number is hacked from the merchants site, its useless to the hacker.

I have ordered from egghead in the past and I have had no charges on my Visa card yet... BTW, Visa now has a new policy involving cc charges. You are not resposible for ANY illegal charges (used to be first $50). I have not read into it but I keep seeing that damn circus ad on TV... :)
