Friend at Best Buy said another shipment of BFG's arrived at some stores today. Your mileage may vary depending on state, but here is how to check..

Go to www.bestbuy.com, search for "6800", then find the card, then use "Check local availability", put in your zip code, and how far you are willing to drive.. A list of stores will come up, either grey or black, black means that they most likely DO have them in stock, or at least did within the last day.

Next, either call, or drive up to one that says they have them, you won't see them on the shelf usually, and likely won't even see a space for them. Depending on the store, they keep them either high on the canopy, above the endcap canopy, in one of the cages on the floor, or in the cage in the tech area/back room. Most regular sales associates don't have a clue where to look.

Next, have the sales guy check the computer for this SKU: 6684652 Thats the SKU for the BFG6800GT, if it says they got em, they got em, make them look for them.. If it doesn't, check the list that comes up for the closest store that has them, and write down the names/locations while he has the screen up..

Looking at my local Best Buys list today (no, I don't work there, i'm just a bored rich guy that hangs out there buying toys), theres a store on Gratiot in Michigan that got 3 in this morning(amoung others, but most stores local to me, seem to have at least 2-3 today in stock)... So they are arriving, just have to get lucky, and have good timing. Good luck.

Thanks for the info but I'm done with this game. WTF has happened to the graphics card market? I mean, because ATI and Nvidia can't supply them fast enough we're supposed to go out of our way to pay full retail plus tax (or more than that in many cases) for the honor of purchasing a video card? This is just stupid. It's months since these cards were announced and launched and we're still climbing over one another to lay down $400 or $500 for one. Pfft!!!!

Again, wake me up when the 6800 Ultra or X800XT is $300... :disgust:

I agree. I drove to 3 best buys today. (i just left my job and decided to enjoy my time off
with a nice ride, so its no big deal). But, I called the best buy 45 minutes away and th guy
told me they had 1 there. I asked if he could hold it and he said no problem. So i drive there
.... 45 minutes later when i get there, i speak with the same guy, and he tells me that 15 minutes
earlier someone came in with a store pickup receipt and his manager said he had to give it to
that guy. So.... not the guy's fault really, he has to do what his manager tells him, but cmon
now...I drove 45 minutes because he said he would hold it for me. He proceeds to try and help
me locate one at a closer store, which was nice but he was kinda obliged to anyway. At a best
buy closer to me, he has them listed as having 2 in the store... when HE calls them and tries to find
out about em, they tell HIM that they dont know why it shows that, they have no idea about having any.
SOOO I'm sure there are 2 there sitting somewhere, but I am not going through this anymore, I dont
care if there was a best buy next door to me now. Ill buy them when i can walk in and get it. Or order
an ultra online for a NON JACKED UP price , when available.

ok thats off my chest now :)

Don't sweat it. IT seems like the fever pitch hs definitely died down on the GF6800/Doom3 hysteria. Most So Cal stores have them in stock now.

You'll see prices go down once the pci-e versions are out. Yeah I noticed alot of GTs. Leadfast, BFG, PNY at fry's and at BB in So Cal. Still very rare to find a Radeon x800 xt pe or a 6800 Ultra.

I had a similiar expierence today when I went into my local best buy. Web site said they were in stock, had the guy look up the SKU, said 2 were in stock. He disappeared into the back for 10 minutes and came back saying it was a glitch or something and the cards weren't in the store. Has anyone had any luck getting a card out of one of these places w/o "inside help." I find it hard to believe a company like best buy has an inventory control system that regularly reports incorrect stock numbers. FWIW, I saw a large bin of graphics card parts shrinkwrapped in a back area when the guy went to check, but I couldn't make out any specifics. Maybe my card is stitting up there with a big "don't sell, this card is reserved for xxx employee" If that's the case, I don't really care.. but damn I'm tired of being fed the "its a computer glitch" line.

Any tips on getting a BB employee to cough up one of these cards?

Start of the day, no 6800gt's in store, none show in inventory.

a truck pulls in with a stock order, truck is unloaded.

warehouse staff "check in" the delivery, comparing the items delivered to the manifest/invoice/packing
list.

manifest/invoice/packing list goes to office to be entered (receipted) into inventory

the stock is staged<first likely cause of the discrepancy in the warehouse for distribution to displays and overstock.

stock is distributed to sales floor displays and overstock storage(high above the displays)<this is another likely cause for the discrepancy

They shouldnt have a situation where an item is shown as on hand before a delivery is made, if it is in the computer it is in the store, ask(nicely) one of the managers to help you.

Lucky for me! I also went to two local BB today, one in Fullerton and Cerritos between 5pm and 6pm PST, after looking at this post. Despite what it said on BB web site Fullerton store didn't have any in stock. Then I drove to the Cerritos store knowing I had little chance and going to be 15 minutes late picking up my wife, and she'd get angry at me. But what do you know! They had one unit on the shelf waiting for me!
Now I'll have to decide if I should sell the PNY 6800GT on ebay or return it to Fry's

They got em, if the computer says they got em, then they got em... I recommend talking to a manager to get them... As I already said, the first sales moron I talked to couldn't find them, and said it was a computer error..

I found my friend that works there, he spent 15+ minutes rumaging around, and found them.. High up on the canopy over the endcap where they keep the graphic cards. You just have to be persistant, talk to more than one sales person, possibly talk to a manager, and tell them that "You heard on the internet, they are kept locked up, or out of customers reach, and sometimes not in normal spots."..

Considering BFG6800GT's are selling for $500-600 on Ebay right now, its a pretty good deal to pay Retail+Tax for them if you ask me... I'm kicking myself for not buying all 5 I could have bought 2 days ago... If I sold 5 for 500$ each, i'd if gotten a free graphics card with the profits... Hindsight is 20/20, and i'm kicking myself for not doing it....

Darn it! I just ran "detect optimal frequency", and BFG got lower frequencies on both GPU and memory than PNY.
PNY was 424/1170. BFG was only 407/1007. Can you trus this optimal frequency finder at all?
Now I can't make up my mind which card to keep!

Aren't you from the bay area, Juice5557? That sucks. Because i'm around there too and I ended up picking one up today at the Best Buy in Gilroy, CA. I think it was the last one left so I got pretty lucky. Thank you SO MUCH for the tip Kobra.

Picked up a BFG 6800 GT OC from Best Buy today in Brooklyn, NY. Haven't opened it yet, doesn't seem to be worth the cash to me.

Thanks for the post. I look up my local So. Cal BB and I found them. One store's system shows that it won't receive the package until tomorrow. So, I called another place (West Covina) and it still has 2 left. After I got there, I bought one and another one was bought by the employee. Hehe...lucky me!

That detect optimal crap in the drivers is pretty flakey, and seems broke.. Don't pay attention to it.. BFG is an overclocking beast. Have fun. Mine hit 428/1180 on air.. But I run at 420/1150 usually for general use.

Another tip: Best Buy pal of mine checked their shipping warehouse, and the next batch of BFG6800GT-OC Doom Editions will be in stores on THURSDAY... Mark your calenders if you still need one! At least thats according to him, and so far, hes been right on.
