It depends, not having access to the article, some specials are ON LINE only. Technically, Best Buy and the Best Buy on-line are separate entities, For example, I got some Insignia speakers which were advertised as $40 on their website, but were $60 in-store, but the webpage SPECIFIED it was an on-line dea. When I went to the store, they gave me the price but it took them awhile to get it sorted in the system because they were sortof and not-sortof price-matching to themselves. If I had done local-pickup, it wouldn't have been a problem, but buying it in-store made it a different matter. Also, local specials aren't necessarily going to be on the website either, so it might make sense for them to have an intranet for their current local pricing scheme, vs. the "separate entity" that is bestbuy.com

It's possible it was an error on Best Buys part, and it's possible they didn't notice it was an on-line special, but I dunno.

I got an idea - purchase online and pick it up at the store. wow, I'm a genius.

yes, i'm a best buy apologist. that's what i do.

he sure didn't have too much detail to his story as to how they 'treated him like crap'...

i would give him the runaround too until he showed me the other price that he saw... or would have gone oh really? hmm, ok, i'll take your word on it, here's $150.

genius.

We'd need details but my guess is he told the salesperson that he saw the price on the web site. The employee then went not to the web site but to the other site. I don't think it was ever a case of "trust me, I saw it", it was the case of the employee not knowing how to check the real web site.

which is why i'm saying it's not that big of a deal...

the article seemed like an overreaction to me, that's all

Agreed

As an ATG developer, I have to say that it sucks. BestBuy's e-commerce system is based on ATG, and it's probable that a promotion that is offered to normal users is not offered internally. I doubt any sneakiness is going on, but the manager at that one store should have been fired. Spring/Hibernate pwns ATG any day of the week!

Just seems like no one at BB knows what's going on. Doesn't sound like they did anything on purpose. But I'd be pissed if I had to do all that driving around and such like he did...
