More Anthrax bad news... Linky between FL and NY...

Tests link Florida, New York anthrax - MSNBC

Ok, I'm getting sick of hearing about this... Now they are saying it is weapons grade anthrax and that it is the same stuff in each place...

Grr...

If Iraq is behind this, I'm worried... Not because they are going to kill us all, but because of what we might do to them...

I've been gungho on this board before about blasting the bad guys to little tiny pieces, but now that seems to be a real possibility... And I'm not happy about it...

Sigh...

With India and Pakistan fighting again over Kashimer (sp), this whole thing looks like a mess...

Hmm... a link they say? I wonder what genius figured that one out😉🙂.

But seriously, this anthrax thing is bad news. But we musn't get hysterical about it.

I must have skipped over this part twice.
Someone give me a clue where it was?

Anthrax on Senate Letter Called Potent

The anthrax that arrived in the office mail of Senate Majority Leader Thomas A. Daschle on Monday is a highly potent, finely milled variety that spreads easily by air and is similar to the spores that killed Florida photo editor Robert Stevens almost two weeks ago, senior government officials said yesterday.

...

Although it has yet to be established that the anthrax sent to Brokaw and Daschle is the same high-grade variety, FBI investigators believe that the three cases -- in Florida, New York and now Washington -- are likely connected, officials said.

Yahoo News

I read in one of the Links stories that the strain used was not resistant to antibiotics, so, it's not necessarilly a military grade anthrax, but, it's still potent.

The thing that is bothering me so much is that I'm supposed to travel to NYC on Friday... I'm flying on American (on a 767 no less) and I'm staying in the Marriot above Grand Central Station... Since they haven't done trains yet, I'm wondering about that... (GCS is the largest train station in the US)

Sigh...

I'm thinking about not going, while I'm not really worried about being attacked, it feels a bit too much like tempting fate... I know Bush said to get on with our lives, and I have... But at some point you have to pay attention to threats. For example, the British went on with their lives during the blitz, but that doesn't mean they didn't go into bomb shelters when an attack was under way and I feel like this attack is still under way...

Sigh...

Ummm... no they're not.

<< Officials said it is a naturally occurring strain, one that, according to the CDC, responds to all antibiotics that normally treat anthrax. >>

They are saying that it is the same quality as weapons grade, but it hasn't been made into a military grade...

Perhaps I should have been more clear...

Weapons grade just means it is high enough in quality to be used for military purposes... Military grade means it is already weaponised...

This stuff hasn't been weaponised, but it also wasn't cooked up by nuts in a kitchen, it was made in a multi-million dollar lab using world class biochemist experts...

also, not all of them, but at least one, besides florida, had been ground down to the size that it could be inhaled. this could easily be put into a air ventilation system and spread throughout a building.

grinding anthrax down to this size is not a possiblity without real science knowledge and lotsa money.

On HardBall tonight, Chris had a guest that said it would take millions of dollars worth of equipment to produce Anthrax of this quality, that it was something that could be done only by professionals...

That is why I called it weapons grade, this is the sort of thing that only states can do...

Also on Wednesday, an Army officer who oversaw the testing of the anthrax that was delivered to Daschle?s office disagreed with the majority leader?s description of the powdery substance as a ?very potent form? of the bacteria.
?It?s common variety ? from all our testing at this point in time,? Maj. Gen. Jon Parker, from Fort Detrick, Md., said in response to a question about Daschle?s comment. He added the germ is not resistant to conventional antibiotics.

Its not any stronger, Daschle and several other Senators have been spreading unconfirmed stories. You think as leaders in our country, they of all people would know better. Sheesh!

This I found interesting though:

The official added that the letters sent to NBC ?Nightly News? anchor Tom Brokaw in New York and to Daschle at the Capitol urged the use of medicine or alerted the recipients to the presence of the poison ? something deemed unlikely for a terrorist seeking mass casualties.

Why would terrorists tell you to take medicine? Something doesn't add up there, at least for me. 😉
