Many thanks to Gibbo from the Overclockers.co.uk forums for sharing these benchmarks with the rest of the world:

Hi there

I can't give too much away but I have some new sample products that are currently under NDA and will make an appearance probably circa November time.

Let me just say the performance is incredible.

What I can tell you:-
Stock Intel Cooler
2 x ATI HD 4870 X2 (Crossfire) (800MHz Core / 3800MHz RAM)
Seagate 160GB (Slow pants HDD but fine for benching)
Cellshock Blue Edition 1866MHz (8-8-8-16) (Clocked at 2000MHz 9-8-8-16) - Also on Weekend special at OcUK!!
Antec Signature 850W PSU

Now like I say I can't reveal too much, but check out this screenshot:

Now before you go you have seen better or accomplished better remember a couple of things, this is a stock aircooled system which limits overclocking potential. The technology is in the Alpha stages and the CPU is running 4GHz, most systems are running past 5GHz to get these kind of scores.....

Also note that with a single 4870 X2 the 3D Mark 06 score is still past 25.5k in 3D Mark 06 due to that benchmark not taking advantage of multiple GPU's.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Core i7 Extreme!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

That's sure a low CPU score, in 3dMark06. Seriously low. I get over 4,900, with my Q6600 @ only 3.2 Ghz, yet he's only getting 6495 with that Nehalem @ 4 Ghz?😕

Arent' these chips supposed to only be a rather modest improvement for gaming? I was under the impression the whole point of Nehalem was to finally overcome Intel's architectural disadvantages in the server space.

i7 might be a record setter in 3dMark06, but unless this translates into real world.... I am waiting for actual gaming benchmarks. It has already been mentioned by multiple sources that it was catered for server apps and gaming performance most likely won't be significantly better than C2D/Qs of today. If it is, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

If it's running at 4ghz stock cooler, and has cache to run 4 cores and 8 threads, I'm sure it will run games just fine 😉

sooo, is the rumor true that the memory and CPU have to run at the same voltage?

You are using 1.43v CPU and I do not know of any memory that will do 2000Mhz at 1.43v

I hope the rumor is not true.....

please reply.

He probably heard it from Fudzilla like the rest of us:

Fudzilla - Nehalem only support DDR3 800, 1066

Hes at 166mhz x 18 default 3.2g ES, but oc'd using a 24x multi x 166 = 3900mhz. Does this mean anyone can use the multi they need, or only the EE will have unlcoked multi, or that just OCing will be done through the QPI only?

I'm confused.

The multiplier will be locked for mainstream Nehalem, but the enthusiast versions (read, expensive) will have unlocked multiplier, kind of like Extreme versions. I wonder if the 166mhz could be overclocked.

"Nehalem's CPU, memory and IO frequencies and voltages can all be set independently"
