Got the Alton Brown smoker rockin' again this weekend.

Doing a 12lb boston butt(pulled pork). Used whole herbs for the rub this time, and ground them myself. It smells so yummy!

I'll take some more pics when we actually put the pull in the pulled pork. Has about an hour and a half left.

Using hickory and mesquite chunks with some apple chips thrown in for good measure.

Smoker love

Mmmm... Smokey, juicy, succulent meat

Another angle

Mmmm... puddles of grease

:beer::D

Edit: It's done!

Glorious, glorious pig

OMG! Effortless!

Closeup of juicy tenderness

Mmmmm! I can't wait to make me a sammich!

This one was much more successful than our last one.

:beer::D:beer:

Sounds like a great weekday project this week. Have my mom coming in for a visit for my son's first birthday. May have to pull up the Alton Brown Smoker Schematics. Nothing like having your own mother munch on your smoked meat.

That looks stunning. How many total hours?

And btw, do you have a kill-a-watt? Am curious how much the hotplate uses.

I'm going to check it after 11 hours, but I think it will take 12 or maybe a bit longer since it's so large.

I have four kill-a-watts. :p

I'll throw one on and report back.

Edit: It uses ~755W.

I have it turned up almost to maximum to maintain ~220ºF. I assume its an 800W element.

Not really, actually.

1 teaspoon whole cumin
1 teaspoon whole fennel
1 teaspoon whole coriander
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon paprika

That's the original AB recipe, and I threw in 1 teaspoon garlic powder cuz.. I like garlic. All the whole herbs were ground up in a spice grinder prior to application, obviously.

It's getting close! I can't wait to tear into it with a fork! Gotta let it rest for a while first though. Arg! lol

Cool.

I spent about 12 hours myself smoking a brisket using a charcoal grill. I thought about trying AB's smoker, but I am happy with using my charcoal grill as it is.

More info??

Just cut it up with a knife? Cut around the bones, or what?

I worship you...having one is very empowering, having 4 must be like superhero power. :p

That's more juice than I thought, but still <$1 of electricity. (at @$.10/kwh, using a total of 9.3kwh.)
