Scenario:

It's pouring rain, thunder and lightning... and you're driving down the road (in a 2 seater. You see on the side of the road, there are three people. A dying old man (who has an illness that only the doctor that he's with can save him), a doctor (who is the only one in the world that can save that man, if he had proper equipments with him), and a girl (who is the girl of your dream).

You can only take ONE person with you. Who would you take?

I don't know how they analized the answer, but I didn't get the job (this is for an IT position years ago).

My answer (at the time) was: Take the dying old man, because there might be a chance that he would be saved. The doctor can take care of himself and the girl, if she's the girl of my dream, she'll be there when I get back...

Reflecting on my answer back then, I should have taken the girl of my dream. Either way, the dying guy was going to die any way, and it won't help if I have taken the doctor.

What would you do?

EDIT: You CAN'T give your car up, because I did ask if I could do that.

Give the car to the doctor and the dying man, and stay with the girl of my dreams.

I thought about that too, but, I don't think that's an option.

I'd let the doctor drive my car with the dying man in the passenger seat, and I would stay out in the storm with the girl of my dreams.

It's called "thinking outside the box." :D

Obviously the girl. The others get wet, but if you take the doctor or old man, the old man dies. So, even if you don't like the girl you'd take her, but since she's girl of your dreams, bonus.

Kill the old man and the doctor, have my way with the young girl, kill her afterwards, then go on my way.

EDIT: didn't see azazyel's post. I think my way is better because there are no witnesses, and the rain will wash away any evidence.

Now you tell us. That is the correct answer, since I doubt the interviewer was smart enough (in asking this stupid question) to mention that neither the doctor nor dying man can drive. Or state that none of the four people have that odd device known as a "cell phone."

In the interviewer's bizarro universe the answer is probably to take the girl since you can't save the dying man by loaning your car, cramming 3 people into your 2-seater, phoning for help, or driving to a phone booth to call.

I'd be tempted to ask if their business plans and software designs are this idiotic or only their interview questions.

That's exactly why you got it wrong.

I believe this was for IT management for a hotel chain owned by a Japanese company. I forgot their name.

As you can only take 1 person (and you have to drive), you seize the opportunity and take the girl, stopping only at a payphone in the nearest town so that a taxi can pick up the doctor and the old man and take them to the nearest hospital, so the doctor can save him.

Take the babe (assuming you can't give up the car)...easy.

I think it is an interview question of personal honesty...the CIA asks those kind of questions to profile their potential employee's.

One of my 2nd cousin (whom I've seen maybe 3 times in my whole life) works for CIA and told about of the interview, training process.

I've heard of this before. MogulMonster's response is considered the "right" one and probably the one you should say in an interview if you can give up your car.

If they've modified the question so that you can't give up your car, then I would imagine saving the doctor is the right choice. Choosing the girl is obviously the wrong answer, since it's selfish. Choosing the old man is foolish, since he'll be dead anyway without the only doctor that can save him (why say the doctor is the only one that can save him and expect another doctor to be able to save him?). By choosing the doctor, you're helping many people, not one.

The interviewer must not have thought things through, because the setup was perfect for Mogul's response. In real life, however, I'd take the girl.

That's a stupid question, (I've seen it before), plus some of the answers are atypical of some of the posters here.

I haven't seen anyone say "mind your own fvcking business"
And, had the original question left the girl out and not been presented as a scenario, a few people WOULD have said "mind your own business. The best you can do is call for an ambulance for them."

Regardless though, I'd have stayed with the girl :D :p

I picked the girl before I finished reading the post.

Why the hell would you pick the old man? Hahahahahahaha.

All the information was given to you.
