I just heard 'Copperhead Road' on the radio at work and thought, it'd be damn cool to cook my own whiskey!

Anyone ever try it?
Any good how-to websites to check out?

JR..

Just to let you know it is illegal, and you should really have a good idea what you are doing or you could end up blind from methanol.

I thought it was only illegal if you were selling it. Kinda like how it's not illegal to brew your own beer?

Nope distillation is illegal in the USA (ok for personnal consumption in Europe), unless done to supplement automotive fuel, but you have to fill out some paperwork and get approvals for that.

There are loads of sites out there about it:

But it is still cheaper to buy the whiskey than to buy all the ingredients, ferment it, distill it and age it. Plus les risk of arrest FTW.

Homebrewing was made legal by a law signed by carter, moonshine is still illegal though, I guess the only reasons were taxes and safety.
