I didn't know that you could eat lotus, but it's pretty good. I guess billions of Asians can't be wrong. I'm not a fan of the egg in the middle though.

They're a rip off before the moon "festival"/day. After that, 30% off madness:). And don't bothe with the variations: most of them taste like crap. Just stick to lotus paste(?) and egg.

Definitely. I've tried the ones with black bean, lotus and some sort of nut, taro, etc. and they all sucked. The original is the best.

Mine didn't have any. It has lotus paste, sugar, peanut oil, corn syrup, egg, and sodium benzoate. It came from an oriental bakery in New Orleans, so I don't think it's that authentic.

Good anyway, though.

Had some the other day with an old professor (took him for History of Modern China back in the day). I remember we had them in class one day and I wasn't a big fan...but I must say they were pretty tasty the other day. Of course, the fact that I washed it down with Chinese vodka helped.

For some reason i can't stand them.

Every lunar festival my parents buy some and i take a bite then remember i don't like them.

The egg in the middle is really weird imo. Its really sweet and smooth then you get a bit of intensely salty dry ick.

We bought a set of 4 of the really nice ones...$10/ea! Crazy.

Double yolks...so good. I'm only eating a quarter of one each time so I can savor it :p

I'd rather have Korean yaksik, although Japanese mochi would also work in a pinch.

Most mooncake is pretty crappy (dry, chalky). Look for the mooncakes that say "must be refrigerated."

i can only eat about an eighth at a time at most because they are SO rich.

i can't stand the egg though, i don't care if it's good luck or what not. it's nasty.

Only noobs buy mooncake at supermarket. The best mooncakes are made fresh at local chinese bakeries. Your friend probably wants a favor from you.

Looooove moon cake. Also love trying new and different flavors hehe. Still love the lotus seed ones. Original is still quite good. Agree with most egg comments. Dry and salty in the middle, wtf?

The egg takes some getting used to, but given how unhealthy it is (typically duck egg which is worse than chicken eggs), it's best if you don't like them
