Montana vacation

Planning on going to Montana from 9/3 - 9/10.

I'm flying into Missoula.

Is there enough to do in that area to keep me busy for a week or should I think about doing a driving tour through Calgary/Banff/Lake Louise and back down through BC?

I'd love to do that. Actually, I'm gonna live in that area one day.

Glacier and Waterton (the Canadian part of the park) are both lovely. Get out and hike.

Yea, great area. Get on Going To The Sun highway early before the traffic gets ugly. Icefields parkway is great also and Banf is a neat town. But the best way to see it is on a bike

Go north to Kalispell -- Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park.

Hiking and camping could last you for months, if you wanted to. Make sure you take a nice camera, because your wife will want to go see it with you next time you go.

thats a great park and is best viewed from back country trails. If I were you, I would rent all the gear you need and spend the entire time hiking from the the east central area up to the Canadian side. There is a shuttle you can take back down.

If you don't want to do an extended back pack trip, then consider a overnight trips where you go in a day or two, and then back out.

Ptarmigan Tunnel is something you should see whether you do it as a day hike or part of a larger trip.

You can also rent a bicycle and ride up and back down Going to the Sun road.

The lodges around the park are great and a good place to rest and recover.


Banff and lake louis are awesome too, but are very far...plan on driving at least 1 day each way.

Oh, and don't be surprised if it snows.

Take the bus trip at glacier. You get to experience the scenery a lot more when you aren't worried about driving off the side of a thousand foot cliff.

Oh, and visit Big Mountain and take the lift to the summit. It's very cool.
Whitefish is also a pretty cool little town to wander around.
