Hydrothermal-worm.jpg

Meet the hydrothermal worm, a rather obscure microorganism that lurks in thermal vents deep (really deep) in the ocean.

It’s a recent discovery and its scientific name is still unknown.

Taken at a magnification of 69x with a width of 4.32 μm with a Quanta SEM, the shot was taken using a similar process. It was also taken by Philippe Crassous.

Hydrothermal worms are deep sea creatures, almost as small as bacteria, and are largely found near hydrothermal vents in the ocean. It's not something you're likely to ever see, unless you're a deep sea marine biologist.

For a creature with that much specialized structure, its hard to believe it is as small as a single cell bacteria.

Sharks pretty much fit the 'monster' stereotype. Large mouth in proportion to the body lined with rows of teeth, and a very aggressive hunter.
