hi,

i have a tyan trinity 400 with a celeron 800 mhz and i'm running Windows XP on the machine. everything is working well, except for my sound card. i have a diamond monster mx300 sound card, and everytime i install it, i get this error:

there was a problem installing hardware:
Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio (WDM)
An error occurred during the installation of the device

That was trying to use XP's drivers. When i tried installing the Monster MX300 sound card drivers, the software doesn't even detect the card. any suggestions? thanks, David

Bare with me, I haven't had experience with XP yet

This may be an old problem with SB emulation...personally, I'm happy XP (apparently) included Aureal WDM drivers with a clean install, since ME made the mistake not to support Aureal...

If I am incorrect, and you actually upgraded to XP, and already had WDM drivers installed before the upgrade, please post.

Otherwise, try REMing out the sb emulation in autoexec (if it's there). Or, try disabling it in Device Mangler.

I'm also having problems with my MX300 with XP. I just installed XP tonight and it shows the Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio(WDM) installed correctly, but the multimedia audio controller doesn't have a driver installed so the sound messes up. I tried using the cd that came with the MX300 to install the driver, but it wouldn't work. Anyone know what I should use for the driver?

nope, i reformated the drive, then i installed xp. i upgraded before, and it did give me the nice aureal drivers because i had windows 98 in there before hand. the only problems were that it refused to detect that i had a network card and it kept freezing. now that i have my network card back, and have totally started from scratch, it can't find drivers for my sound card. i even tried installing the crappy beta monster drivers, but that didn't work either. i just bought a SB live and hopefully it'll work with my computer, so thanks for all the help anyways guys. btw, the card is fully functional, so if anyone is still running win 98 or me, i will sell you the card for 15 dollars shipped or trade for a stick of pc133 128 mb ram. thanks!
