Monster MX300 owners out there...why do I keep locking up? Where do I find drivers??

Hey there guys,

I just got a new motherboard and processor, but I noticed many programs I run (all of which use sound) froze and locked up my computer. So I removed my Monster MX300 sound card and used someone else's and it worked fine. Do any of you know the reason of this and where I can get updated drivers? Diamond doesn't have ANY. I'm also running millinium, but diamond says that shouldn't be a problem on the website...any suggestions?

Thanks alot.

PS: I don't think its an issue with Sound Blaster Pro Emulation because I can boot just fine.

Sounds like an IRQ conflict problem. I had the exact same problem when 3 of my devices(including the MX300) were sharing the same IRQ. Look in your device manager to see if your MX300 is doing that. If so, you probably have to do some card shuffling to get rid of the problem.

As for drivers, the latest ones are version 2048, and I believe vortexofsound.com has them

Speaking of the MX 300, does anyone else who has one seem to think that it takes this card forever to intialize? When it is out of my box, the PC boots in a flash, put in the MX 300 and boot time turns into minutes instead of seconds.

Hmmn, weird. Mine boots up in a jiffy, with or without the MX300. Did you do a clean install?

I agree with Tonec and that it sounds like a SB emulation problem! Go to www.soundsurge.com site and get the latest drivers, find and follow directions on how to disable SB emulation(this frees up a DMA channel!). Good Luck!

Also, if your running on an AMD (VIA) platform, make absolutly sure that you have installed the Via 4in1 drivers. Just installing those has saved me a lot of headache. You can get those a www.viatech.com

ah ok found it, had to go to download.com and look up the driver under "Aureal" rather than monster..thanks for you help gentlemen =)
