Monster is not encouraging

The McDonalds ad takes you here: http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa/work/search.html

Great, I can use my degree to make fries.

Apparently though, to Monster, entry level jobs means internships and jobs that don't require a degree. Apparently, a college graduate is not qualified for entry level. I put in "GIS" and got results for nanny jobs and ads for companies "coming to my campus". Anyone know where to search for entry level jobs?

I think they are trying to tell you to lower your standards.

What kind of degree?

Better not be English Lit or Philosophy. Those don't even get you a job making fries. You have to start with a mop and a bucket and work your way up to fries.

companies that hire entry level straight out of college are probably the ones who go to campus and recruit

=/ Good luck...

This might actually be worse then philosophy / english to be honest. Tough market to dip your foot in, especially if you didn't get an internship while in school for experience.

I did a GIS internship at Yellowstone from June-November. It's not helping so far.

There are 1000 GIS jobs listed on Monster, but most of them require CAD and programming experience.

Me too ... though from an IT perspective, and I don't have a ton of background in GIS, just interest 🙂 http://www.gisjobs.org/

Never seen that site. I thought I'd been to all the GIS job websites.

I sent my resume to these people but no reply. They are posting their ad on every GIS job website so they probably have quite a few prospects. http://www.gisjobs.org/jobdetails.php?jobID=517

A couple of GIS programmer/members here, fisheerman & hammerhead pointed me in that direction I believe. Of course, if you'd like to move up north too, there is http://www.gisjobs.ca 😛

Hey, I was the first one who mentioned GIS in your thread about small town computer jobs!

You're right! Sorry I forgot about that. Once fisheerman started talking about the development side of GIS I went off on that tangent willingly 😛

Since then I have talked to some people, and think I've gotten hooked up with a company in a nearby city that wants to interview me for a work-from-home type position that will require some field work, which I am really interested in.

Thanks for getting me looking at the GIS direction again

GIS was/is a hot field (esp like 5 years ago)...however; do you have a IS background? what experience?

By now I am sure it's full of eager candidates shopping for a paycheck.

You mean information science other than GIS? I do have some experience with Access.
