I am thinking it's time to build me a new PC or custom order one
basically I want a mofo system

Fastest performance in gaming
Not really worried about video editing type of PC but one that will be the best current and future video PC

AMDs latest 64 bit or Intels latest ?

I am even thinking of duel 6800 512 mb cards using the pci express. I am not sure a faster video card setup is on the normal market.
Overkill, sure now it is but in a year the games will probably be stressing most cards there are now or 2 years down the road

I looked at what alienware will build and they have what seems to be
rather elite components but a lot of the price is their name.

Any suggestions ?

Under 5 g is the only restriction I am thinking now so that's a lot to work with

I just am not sure as there are so many factors to consider

I know it will be partly out of date before i even get it finished but that's always the case or it will be 500 dollars cheaper before it ships to me, lol
i hate it when that happens

Here's what i did:

https://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchan..._Code=80501&Category_Code=AllAdversary

Monarch computers had some of the best prices I saw on the market, and an extremely wide selection of system parts.

For graphics, I went with a single ATI card. In the future, (several years) I'll have to upgrade, but the advantage of a single card is that to run dual cards for the same price, you sacrifice clock speed and video quality. Having more video memory does not not necessarily mean better performance than a better card with less overall memory.

Wait for the next gen video cards to come out they'll be much faster then a 6800Ultra and a pair od the next gen cards in SLI will be monsterous, I'd take the best AMD dual core or FX-57, don't buy from alienware they are over priced just build it yourself you'll save a good amount of money

you'd be crazy to spend that kind of money on 2 vga's right now.

no alienware, build it yourself. maybe get a pre-tested cpu/mobo combo from monarch for the free games.

get the dfi ut nf4 sli-dr and one 6800gt right now and then you can get 2 of the next gen cards in a few months.

look thru the cpu forum for your best option there, maybe one of the new san diego chips.

and of course if you're running sli get a sick monitor. no point in all those fps if your monitor can't display them.

keep in mind you'll need a monster psu for that.

Actually, with two 512MB 6800Us, you get extreme performance in games which utilize 1GB textures, like Doom 3 at ultra with everything turned up.

thanks for the info
I was not sure when the next greatest gen card was coming
I assumed for now it's pci and sli and duel something

What about a duel processor MB ?

at times I do get miffed as I run 100% CPU rendering video or just some applications seem to really bog down my current 2800+ XP
Yea that's a old one for these days but it works fair now
I have a single 6800 by BFG so it's the OC version of the GT
I built this one and it's in a termaltake case with fans galore

I also owned a 64 bit laptop 3200 and dang if that thing has not processed some video faster. Quite a bit even though the hard drive and other componets are slower than a PC
But, it looks to me to be going at least 30% faster rendering video. I am guessing that's the 64 bit part and i wonder what a 64 bit 3200 in a PC would do with fast ram/etc

So much to ponder!!

so so so many combinations you can ponder and never have the best combo

I just want to be close and have one that will last 2 to 3 years with no upgrades needed at all.

I would never, and I mean NEVER, buy from Alienware. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous.
But let me say this, I would buy from them twice before I would even think about buying a pre-built from Monarch.

As far as getting an ultimate gaming machine, an FX-55 with dual 6800 Ultras on a DFI ultra SLI is THE best setup right now. Add a Raptor, Audigy2 ZS Platinum pro, PCP&C PSU, a nice case, and water cool it all. :)

If you want to wait 'til summer, even faster options will be available.

do yourself a favor and "search" and read about some of your questions. there are great threads, stickied and not, regarding dual cores, next gen video, PSU's , mobo's.

i'm not trying to put you off, but as you said, there are so many options and so much info here that you're doing yourself a disservice by not exploring and resarching. you really need to decide whats right for you.

Wait, if money is no issue, why do you even care? Just get whatever you want, and get the best again and again year after year. Thats what I would do if I had the dough.

well, the $$ is a one time deal, lol
I am getting unexpected cash for the first time 'ever' and once spent, it's gone and I am back to the old charge it and pay off plan :)
lol

If there are new gen cards coming in the summer it sounds like a time to wait for sure.
tomrrow i will read around on whats coming and what's out

so thanks again.
2 sli geforce 512 cards is a huge price to pay but i thought it would be elite at this time. I was not aware better cards were this close. The 6800 ultras were SO hard to get and the price has stayed pretty dang high

thanks for those links shorunner. I am going to peek at those now and look around tomorrow after I get some sleep

oh, i just got the 20 inch Dell and it IS a beauty. I had no dead pixels and I have had it for 3 or 4 months. I love it and it really does games better than I thought it would. I can't see any ghosting or if it's there my eyes are too old to catch it now
