For the people here on the board that employ people in their organization, how have you found Monster and CareerBuilder to have worked out on your recruiting needs? Is there a specific criteria you look at (such as how demanding the job is or the expected pay) to where you go to recruit? How does Monster and CareerBuilder compare to other sites or sites like Craigslist which are completely free? How about compared to newspaper for skills and relevance?

How is their nationwide job posting?

We seriously waste ~$10k a year on monster and get zero hires. Most of our hires are from Craigslist (LA is $25 per posting), referrals and headhunters.

I found my current job on craigslist as well as my last one. My current employer recruits exclusively from craigslist since it's so much easier.

Much depends on what skills one is looking for

Not enough applicants or not enough qualified applicants from monster?

Both. But for Monster most of the cost is to access resumes.

I'm been searching for a job lately and hit up monster, career builder, hot jobs, etc. I've put in about 20 applications within the past 2-3 weeks. Got a call on Friday from a guy who said he seen my resume on Career builder. This was for a job i didnt even apply for.

I have NEVER got hired through Monster or CareerBuilder, all through word-of-mouth referrals

Actually yes, if you apply it properly. The problem is most of the employees just can't sell worth a ****** no matter how much training they get.

I have gotten 1 permanent slot (2001) from a company posting on Monster
2 clients through Career builder
3-4 clients via Dice
4 clients via America's Job Bank.
