Monster AV cables or Regular ones, Whats differant besides price???

i have a $200 DVD player and a $200 sony reciever with $200 Pioneer speakers with Dolby Digital/DTS!

and i was wondering if i would see a differance using differant cables, or not?

very little, if any.

at that price range, the equipment is a much bigger factor in noise than is cable quality

as long as you have a decent gauge of wire, be it $200/foot or zip cord, it will make little difference in your setup

as far as RCA-type interconnects, the same theory applies. you really have to have some expensive equipment before you can start justifying higher end cables (though monster cables aren't exactly high end stuff.)

the only place where you *might* notice a difference would be with your s-video cable versus regular composite out....a better quality s-video cable may give you a better picture, but again, it depends on the quality of your television

calm yourself....it's only been 7 minutes. I don't know myself, but I believe monster cables have more wire inside, so the electricity will have more "bandwidth" for the sound/whatever to flow through, making the loss less, yes? I think that's what I leanred from physics class 😛
 
i don't know about the av cables

but for speaker cables and whatnot it makes no difference
 

There isn't much diff in cable quality. 22 or 18 gauge speaker wire will do the job just fine for your $200.00 combo.
There is a huge diff when it comes to s-vid cable if you want to run the signal over 20 feet. Most moderate price s-vid cable will do the job, but stay away from the el-cheapo dollar store cable and you should be okay.
 
Where can you get cheap S-video cable that is over 20 ft. I need to run some cable thru out house so I need lengths of atleast 40 - 50 ft. Will signal deterioration (sp??) be to great at these lengths?

pretty much what monster is is the correct gauge of speaker wire

most of the time when you buy speaker wire you buy too small, monster "corrects" that

all taht goofy crap that monster puts on its cables does not lead to a noticeable difference

 
First of all, Monster cables are way overpriced. That being said, it is still important to get good quality cables. For speakers, the most important thing is wire gauge, especially for long cables. The larger the wire (smaller gauge) the less resistivity per foot of wire, meaning less power loss. For AV-type cables, good quality cables with good connectors and good shielding can make a difference. However, you don't need to spend huge amounts to get good cables. There wouldn't really be any noticeble difference between a moderately priced cable and a really expensive one.
 
My ex's dad does the sound for the Oakland Ballet and has done sound for movies, and invented a sound box mixer dealy that they use on Letterman and Hollywood Squares -- he knows his sh!t, he told us to save our money [buy the cheapy cables] (after he ran tests, of course, he doesn't just take his own word for it).

Well, all i know is that Monster has one helluva good PR team. The fancy box seems to make you think the product lying underneath is a great product as well huh?
 
I think as long as you buy a decent grade cable (basic shielded) you'll be fine.

It's a better investment to spend the money on good speakers than pay huge bucks for exotic cable.
 
From what i hear, Monster is good, but overpriced and you can get the same quality for less. Personally, i decided to go with Radio Shack "premium" cables because i simply can't afford to spend half a grand on cables. These cost more than RS gold-plated cables, but not much more, and they're worth the price. Anything below these is garbage though.
 
Here's another thumbs up to Radio Shack cables. Sure, Monster cables are good, but are way overpriced.
 
heh i just use zipcord from radioshack for my klipsh 4.1's 🙂 not high end, but still better then the ones that came with em.
 
I was looking for a cable for my TV out and I figured since I have so many wires back there, it wouldn't hurt to get a nice quality one with good construction as to minimize noise. But $29.99 for a 6 ft RCA cable? Give me a break.
