Cable products company sues those who use M-word

A monster by any other name might get you sued by Monster Cable Products Inc.

The Brisbane maker of electronics accessories has filed lawsuits and trademark infringement claims against dozens of companies for using "monster'' in names, products or services.

The TV series "Monster Garage'' and the Monster Seats above Fenway Park's left field wall have been targeted in what Monster Cable officials say is an aggressive legal strategy to protect the firm's good name.

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and court records, Monster Cable has gone after other notable monsters:

-- Walt Disney Co., which distributed Pixar Animation Studios' hit film "Monsters, Inc.''

-- Bally Gaming International Inc. for its Monster Slots.

-- Hansen Beverage Co. for a Monster Energy drink.

-- The Chicago Bears, whose nickname is "Monsters of the Midway.''

-- Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico 😕

THEY ARE GOING AFTER COOKIE MONSTER!!

yea this was posted in OT a while ago, its just stupid
Monster Cables will not win in a lawsuit against Sony and Disney

A sign of desperation maybe? I figured consumers would eventually realize that the $70 Monster Component Cables vs. the $20 Acoustic Research Component Cables in their electronics store are equally as good.

What about the word "Cable"? Shouldn't that be copyrighted too?

A Futurama episode came to mind....:

Mom: But when my robot starts to squeak like an old screen door, well, that's when I reach for a can of Mom's Old Fashioned Robot Oil.
And remember, Mom's oil is made with 10% more love than the next leading brand.

Mom, Love and Screen Door are registered trademarks of Momcorp.

The future is already here.

Walt Disney Co., which distributed Pixar Animation Studios' hit film "Monsters, Inc.''

Oh come on....well, I guess I see the point. I went to see it in the hopes of gaining more information on Monster Cable products, but I was disappointed to see an animated movie that had nothing to do with cables.

Brilliant marketing strategy. Tons of free press hyped trials and lawsuits for a lot less than TV and print advertising.

What about "Monster Ripoff", "Monster stupidity", and "Monster punitive damages awarded during the multiple counter-suits!" 🙂

Any company that goes against Cookie Monster though.. that's just wrong.

PS. I don't see "Monster.com" on that list.. shouldn't that be the first one that they sue? Except the counter-suit on that one would probably knock Monster Cables, Inc., into oblivion.

More like consumers should eventually realize that the $70 Monster Component Cables vs. the $3.50 radio shack cables are equally as good/

Well realistically you'll never see Circuit City or Best Buy carry $3 Component Cables. And I'm willing to be an overwhelming majority of consumers buy the cables right there when they purchase their big screen or home theater.

I think I would worry more about Sony and some of the other ones. But either way...damn, they have lost their mind. While this will save them from spending some advertising money people are correct that the counter suites (if any) and even more likely the legal fees (including the ones they will probably have to pay the defendants when they lose, which they should) are going to go through the roof I bet. I don't know what the hell they were thinking. Of course, I feel that way about all sorts of companies for all sorts of things, lol.

I can imagine the conversation in the Monster Cable legal department...

"What do you want to do today?"
"Heck, lets just sue a bunch of huge companies!"
"Sure, sounds great!"

It's mentioned in one of the links that they already settled; go to monster.com and look at the last line on the page.

Sounds to me like their egos are as overblown as their cables are.........

With all this publicity and particularly if they win no doubt it will drive people to buy their cables and we we will have to suffer through endless posts of morons in this forum say "Monster cables rock". Without backing up their claim as usual.
