Wow, now the game is pointless and not fun at all.

This is because the kids of today cannot count or think without a calculator/computer. The original game is too hard for them to play.

So we make it easier for them to get by without having these skills. Nice.

Don't say WE. I am dead set against the way kids are coddled and taught that competition and earning your way is bad. The education system of this country has become useless.

Actually, that was me agreeing with you.

I know.....and the WE wasn't meant to include you either.

You could just phish from the other players.

That's pretty lame.

I think just having the concept of paper money really makes it just that much more enjoyable. I think everybody plays Monopoly with a little house rules that involves wheeling and dealing with other players, and this concept seems like it would kill that.

As an anal-retentive, Type-A personality, I *hated* trying to keep track of Monopoly money. If I played the game, I usually insisted that we simply used a white-erase board to keep track of money.

Just amazing. That takes all of the fun out of the game! Nothing is as satisifying as watching your friends scrape together all the money they have, and morgage properties while you're sitting on a stack of 100's!

I use to love Monopoly! I still play it to this day, and I'm 21!

You didn't have many friends growing up, did you?

Lol a whiteboard.

Indeed. The game is SO much more tangible that way.

That's the british version. I'm assuming this is worldwide, based on the fact that both companies are worldwide.

:D Seriously - paper cash has always been a pain. Why mess with it when you can just have "The Big Board" that shows everybody's money? Everyone can see how they are doing, and you have all players double-checking each transaction as you make them. Works very well.

I used to have the star wars version, but my parents gave it away by accident! They said they'd get another one... but they never did =(

Because handling and rolling in your money is an essential part of the game.

You'd rather have your $3000 and your opponent's $500 on a screen, or would you rather gloat over your pile of cash that's much much larger than his? :D

Kind of cool... but kind of lame at the same time. I rarely use cash in real life, so I have no love for paper money. But on the other hand it's nice to be able to hide how much money you have from the other players... that's part of the game.

The screen, actually. Plus, you get to charge rediculous amounts for properties, like $326.47 and watch the "banker" have to carry over the change for the rest of the game. :D

*shrug* Keeping up with tiny pieces of fake paper money that slip around and get blown by the slightest breeeze while laying on the floor at 3am was just never fun for me.

I chalk it up to the "New Coke" phenomenon - people don't like change, even change for the better.

Nah... Ronstang pulled out the ever popular "bash the current state of education" card and everyone jumped on that bandwagon. I like this new version and I refuse to believe that more of these techno nerds aren't intrigued by it.

Imo, the old-school paper money was the ownage. It also allowed you to strike all sorts of awesome deals, or make sweet variations in the rules.

Yeah...and I always loved rolling around in piles of it when I won...

...or throwing it in the face of the hotel-owner that bankrupted me when I lost ;)

exactly what I was thinking. One of those really smart ideas.. that is just idiotic.

Stealing from the bank is a childhood tradition i love and want my children to have a chance at.

Plus throwing the money up in the air and making the losers clean it... brilliant memories.. sniff

I have some great memories playing monopoly, all the cash hoarding the the loose allianced between other players to take me down. Or me and another forming alliances against the evil player of the moment :D I just cant see the same happening when everyone has a few digits in front of them. No stealing cash while no one is looking :(
