yeah it could be used in a racist way. but so could "boy".
i've just noticed some people commenting on monkey being a racial slur.

i made a topic rather than just replying in that post because it was off-topic and i've noticed it in more than one thread.

Like "spider" in Syringer threads, calling someone racist when they use the word "monkey" has become popular, because of a thread someone started where they claimed a coworker used the word "monkey" and he was wondering if he should report them to his superiors as racist.

Needless to say, it degenerated into a flamewar.

A lot of monkey-business going on on ATOT lately. Truckers buying toys, Paula eyeing contestants.. .what next? overpriced shipping on Ebay.

it started in a long thread where some guy got all anal over a comment his co-worker made. something along the lines of "jesse jackson, al sharpton and the rest of the monkeys holding pickets."

a debate then started over the usage of the term monkeys.

side 1: monkeys=black folks
side 2: monkeys=dumbasses

well that depends if its a racial slur or not. according to the racist meaning of it, monkeys and black people are the same, or more closely related than other races.

You mean if I call somebody a niggardly monkey I'm likely to get nasty looks? 😉
