More info from my previous post Gen X and earlier rejoice.
Also the military vaccinated for smallpox until early 90s

Vaccine Effectiveness
Because Monkeypox virus is closely related to the virus that causes smallpox, the smallpox vaccine can protect people from getting monkeypox. Past data from Africa suggests that the smallpox vaccine is at least 85% effective in preventing monkeypox. The effectiveness of JYNNEOSTM against monkeypox was concluded from a clinical study on the immunogenicity of JYNNEOS and efficacy data from animal studies.[/

Now with fear of this pox making some people afraid to socialize where will half or perhaps 60% of Anandtech posters go to hook up with a guy? Any hunk in a bar or online could have it. Sorry if that's an old one by now. Oh excuse me I didn't do my research, the first page has the post about 99% of the posters here being without any sex so never mind.

Apparently the primary demographic who contract MP are gay men:

Monkey-pox IS spreading among gay men however being gay has nothing directly to do with it's spread. Any skin-to-skin contact can transmit the virus.

If the hand-shake isn't completely dead after Covid 19 this should be the final blow.

Agreed.

I was quick to dismiss that risk previously, however this virus is a close relative of Smallpox which has been documented to spread via prolonged face-to-face conversation via droplets.

At this point I would like to remind everyone that pre-vaccine approx 1-in-13 of ALL DEATHS was from Smallpox with a mortality rate between 17% and 30%. (to be fair this was mostly without the benefit of modern medicine but still)

As far as we know Monkey-pox is not "airborne-spread" at this point and it's also not likely to kill you. Let's just hope neither one of those changes!

We could potentially be begging to have Covid 19 back.

WHO declares mpox outbreaks in Africa a global health emergency as a new form of the virus spreads

The outbreak in Congo began with the spread of an endemic strain, known as clade I. But a new variant, clade Ib, appears to spread more easily through routine close contact, including sexual contact.

It has spread from Congo to neighboring countries, including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, triggering this action Wednesday from the WHO.

The latest warning for mpox highlights the clade I virus and its variant, which is believed to be more transmissible and cause more serious illness. No cases from clade I have been reported outside of central or eastern Africa, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in an alert last week. It said the spread in the U.S. was a “very low risk" at this time.

The media is actually trying to push this thing. It's actually kind of funny. Covid was at least highly contagious, but this one is fairly easy to prevent. It's a STD, so treat this very similarly to a computer virus. Don't plug your cord into networks you don't trust. :tearsofjoy:
