Monitor's gone

Well, 5 minutes ago there was a power surge at home and, ta-da! my Dell U2713HM is gone.

Is there something I can do to try to bring it back to life before calling the insurance company?

I know it's muy bad not to be using an UPS to protect my devices, but I really feel like someone else should pay for my monitor.

Is there something I can do to prove that it was because of the power surge?

Well, at least the server and the laptops are OK; but I'm really angry, that was a nice and quite expensive screen that was just over one year old.

Unplug it from the mains for about half an hour and try it again?

Monitors in my experience have three year warranties.

I don't know enough about electronics to explain why. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a case of waiting for any residual charge to be used up. Perhaps a chip was retaining duff information which the monitor couldn't handle so it wouldn't switch on.
