Monitoring Internet Connectivity Loss

Hello,
I keep losing internet connectivity and also several times the speed becomes too slow causing my videos to stutter. I have a Motorola modem connected to a tplink wireless router on the top floor of my home and my devices in the lower floor(due to non-availability of access points). I wanted to troubleshoot as to what would be causing this issue? I would like to have a software that monitors the modem. If I am receiving a strong signal at the modem then I can conclude that the issue is with the wireless router and need to get a new one. Any way to monitor the modem?

Doesn't your device show signal strength? Try doing a wifi scan as well to see what other wap are near you and on the same channel.

you can ping the ip of the modem regularly.

More often than not it's the router.
