monitor won't come back on?

I go away from the computer for sometime and come back again my monitor screen is black. I move the mouse or push a key and it doesn't come on. I can hear the computer is running. Seems like the only way to get the screen to come on is to totally reboot the system. Is there someway to setup the system to avoid this problem?

Out of curiosity, did you try power cycling the monitor to see if that would work? If so and it still didn't work try hitting ctrl+alt+delete (if you are running windows) but just once. On my old computer at work that would be what I would have to do to finally get the computer to wake up enough to transmit to the monitor, but then again it was a piece of junk too.
