Monitor Won't Autodetect Video Signal

I have a Hanns-g HH281HPB monitor. Connected to a gtx480 installed on an evga e760 board with the latest bios. Connected by an dvi to hdmi cable. Upon restarting the computer the monitor does not detect the video signal and goes to sleep and I need to turn the monitor off and on to get it to detect the signal even coming from the POST or BIOS screens. What can I do to fix this or is it just the monitor?
