Monitor woes

Every time I turn on the computer and the monitor, the monitor gives a "no signal" notice. I tried turning on the monitor first and then the computer and viceversa but it doesn't matter, sometimes it works, sometimes the monitor is not recognized until i reboot the computer.
I have an A7V8x mobo, an Athy 2000+ XP, 1.5 gigs of ram. Power source is 350watts.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Could it be a faulty Videocard? Could it be that my PS is about to poop (technical term) or that it is over its limit? I know I am overworking my PS because I have way too many components, but I don't see how this would affect the monitor since it has its own power source.
Thanks

Easiest way is to try the monitor on another system.
And try another monitor on your system.

If it points to your system being wonky - then try new vga cables

Disconnect/reconnect cable from the monitor to the graphics card.
Also, depending on the monitor type, there might be a "BND/D-sub" selector (button) somewhere. Hit that. Your monitor manual should have a diagram showing the location of all the control options.

Do you have the Video card set correctly in the BIOS (set to the type of card - AGP or PCI)?

Did this combo work previously?

How old is the monitor? What model\brand?
